30 Day Rule/Focus; June 2025. All Are Welcome!

    Hi Everyone.

We are almost halfway through 2025! At the speed this year is whizzing by it's calendar, we will be celebrating Christmas and New Year in no time! Lol! Alright, let's chill out we just got through Memorial Day and the summer season is just around the corner for most of us. I am sorry for you guys that reside Down Under as your winter session is about to make its appearance. Once again, it's time to switch to more appropriate seasonal soaps in your dens. In any event, I sincerely thank all of you for sharing your shaves on this thread last month. I am glad no one needed any major first-aid while shaving, too. In any event, let me proceed with this month's themes.

    Monthly Themes

Ok, this month's themes are pretty easy. It's a Just Do The Basics June. In our early days of wetshaving, we used the basic hardware and pedestrian software. It aligns with our motto, "Technique trumps tools." In other words, you don't need to bring out your fancy stuff to get a fine shave. So if you choose this route, then make life easy and use the average, run - of - the - mill shaving supplies.

It can also be Jagger/Gillette June. It really is self-explanatory. If you have a Jagger or a Gillette razor than your as good as gold. I don't believe Jagger makes blades, but Gillette does. Therefore, if you have Gillette blades, but not a Gillette razor, then you are still solid.

Finally, there's always Just Shave/No Worries June. It's another way of stating that you can shave however you fancy. No pressure. It is your shave, so do it your way.

    The 30 Day Rule

Take ONE razor, ONE blade, ONE brush, ONE soap/cream and use them EVERYDAY this month. Yes, everyday. But Trigger, I want variety! I know you do, but until you perfect your technique, it makes little sense to constantly change the variables of your shave.

    The Focus

For you out there that are not up to the rigors of the Rule, there is this alternative:
Vary the gear for each shave, save for perhaps one or two elements.
This is a more accessible challenge for the majority of shavers. I like to pick a particular aspect of the shave, be it the lather, a certain blade or a new razor, that needs breaking in, and not change it daily, until I have mastered those tools.

Ok, to keep the thread on a nice even keel, I ask everyone to follow the thread etiquette as listed below:
    1. New Members always welcome. Start anytime.
    2. Old Members always welcome.
    3. Respect everyone.
    4. Refrain from political conversation.

I also want to suggest that we should try to assess our shaves as to why it was good or why it was not up to your standards and express these reasons in your comments. The spirit of this thread is to improve our shaves and if we share the reasons why a shave was good or bad, then we are giving our experiences to encourage good technique and discourage bad technique so that we have great info to get better shaves. I am not suggesting that we do it for every post, but I think it would make for a healthier thread if we start to do it more than we have in the past years.

Moreover, you don't have to do a rule or a focus. You are free to change your setup on a shave to shave basis.

Finally, I want this thread to continue to be a friendly place. It is ok to disagree because that is how we learn from each other, but let's encourage and respect every member. Yes, even if you think they are off the wall. Let's face it! We all are a little off because of our different Aquisition Disorders. Lol!

    Let's have a group hug!

Also, let's have some awesome June shaves and fellowship.

    Sincerely,

    Joe (Trigger)

This afternoon, I will be doing a headshave with only 2 days growth. What the heck is this world coming to! Lol! Anyway, I haven't used Cremo in ages and it really does a great job providing slickness. In keeping with this month's theme, I haven't decided what Gillette razor should I use. I am leaning towards my RedTip. We shall see.

Great intro, Joe, and great shave, Barry!

It'll be (Edwin) Jagger June for me! I'm curious about this option (offer?)--

Is this a challenge or option to not change blades for a whole month (assuming we're a DE or SE shaver)? I've read that if a person dries their razor blade 'properly,' it's entirely possible and feasible to have a blade last for months without dulling much at all, but I've never tried such a thing. I wonder whether I'm smart enough, skilled enough, brave enough, and patient enough to try that...

Thanks. The one blade comment is meant to say to use the same blade brand and model, and replace it with the same blade brand and model when a blade is no longer efficient. Ymmv. Btw, we never got your name.

    Good afternoon.

    1955 Gillette RedTip
Gillette Super Platinum DE Blade (6)
    Barbury Synthetic Brush
    Cremo Sandalwood SC
    Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS
    Lucky Witch Hazel
    Dome Turf: 2 Days

As promised, I just completed my headshave. I did went with my RedTip. It's special because it was made in the year of my birth. I only needed a two pass shave. Didn't bleed, but I left some invisible stragglers on the top of my head. I figured the blade was on its last legs so why push for the third pass when I got a very close and comfortable shave. Therfore, there wasn't any aftershave. As you can see, I purchased some inexpensive post shave products. I bought the Lucky Witch Hazel at the Dollar Tree Store. You can see on the label that it was $1.25 for 8 oz. Preparing for the summer, I purchased Aqua Velva Ice Blue aftershave at my local drugstore. In any event, I splashed on the witch hazel and the cool AQ aftershave that gave me a clean and refreshed feeling. Take care.

Oh! Sorry about that. I’m Eoin.

I may push me current blade out longer, but glad to hear I’m not shooting for a whole month just yet!

    Thanks!

This Sunday morning's shave for me looked like this--

    Edwin Jagger razor
    Big Ben blade
    Parker badger brush
    Prorasso white (sensitive) croap
    Razor Emporium alum stick
    Stirling Ramblin' Man post-shave balm

    shave-set.jpg

For my Sunday Best shave, I chose to do a full 3-pass shave, including full re-lather between each pass. I almost never do 3 complete passes, and I think I have never fully (re-)lathered for each. I don't do 3 full passes normally (rarely more than 2 and a bit of clean-up) because I will still get some razor burn no matter what, and though it's nowhere near what it used to be with a cartridge razor, I still dislike it.

I took my time today, and just enjoyed and tried to pay attention to how small adjustments here or there affected the feel and sound of the razor. It was great, and there was nary an un-shorn whisker anywhere. Sadly, I was incautious at one point, which resulted in a minor bite that I felt instantly despite it not weeping until re-lathering for the subsequent pass. It quit on its own before the shave was complete, so nothing bad.

Despite my mistake, I called today a great success!

    Great intro and options, Joe!

I suspect I will continue with my basic setup from last month, except I will substitute my Jeeves of Hudson Street bay rum set for the Stirling Scots Pine Sheep. So a Just Do The Basics / Jeeves June Rule.
