(Catch-up posts 05 Jul: Shave free Saturday 06 Jul: Computer free Sunday, spent the whole day reading (and nodding off!) 2 day’s growth with the Argentina Tech Woolly Washery Tranquility Decided on a Cold Water shave with cold water prep and no pre-shave The Dorco Prime Platinum Blade felt a bit dull and rough to start with so I quickly swapped over the a fresh Henckels to finish up with a great shave. Not sure if it was the cold water, the lack of pre-shave or the Dorco. Monday 7 Jul 2025 1 Days growth, repeat of yesterday Back to Hot Water Prep and Preshave = Derby Menthol shave cream Croap = Woolly Wash Soapery Tranquility Brush = Razorock synthetic Bowl = White plastic Razor = Gillette Tech Argentina B2 Blade = Prime Platinum Dorco (2) gave this a 2nd chance but when I need 10 – 12 strokes to clear an area I know this is NOT the best blade for me. Might try another day with an OC and see how we go. Passes = 2 and a few touch ups. Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayers ASB = L’Occitane ASL = Blue Stratos Scent = Prada Ocean Luna Rossa which pairs up well with the Blue Stratos (The One Blade blade is now full and won't take any more blades: dutifully binned) Have a great Monday and rest of the week folks
July 7 SOTM Good morning. Shavette Shave #619 Parker SRS Gillette Permasharp 1/2 DE Blade (fresh) JT Spartan Brush Angora Soaps Midnight Lavender SS and AS Stirling Alum Block Lucky Witch Hazel Beard Growth: 2.7 days Decided to use the Parker SRS because I haven't used it in awhile. Loaded this razor with a fresh blade and it glided smoothly over my face and neck; thanks to Angora Soaps. I had a nice 2 pass error-free BBS shave. However, did get plenty of alum feedback on my neck. Applied the witch Hazel and the awesome matching aftershave to end this session. I will be doing a headshave this evening and will be answering your posts as well. I will be out most of the day. Until then, take care.
Finally got to 'sneak' a couple minutes to shave in the AM, and to post it up here. Today was a straight repeat of yesterday, apart from using Duke shave soap from Stirling. I _really_ did not like this scent when I received the sample. It had a strong stifling quality to it I dislike a great deal, and which I get from various shave product scents, but it has mellowed well over the past couple or few weeks. Now it's much more agreeable to my nose. Today's result in terms of shave closeness was similar to yesterday's but without any attempt by the razor to cut a huge gash in my face. Feedback from the alum was surprisingly variable across my face and neck, though never super strong. I can still feel right now, though, the areas where the alum caused a response, which feeling I prefer to not have from a shave. In general, I'd say the angle which works best for me with this razor is one where it leaves behind light 'tracks' of the soap lather. If you look at the picture I posted of it a few days ago, the top cap is scalloped, so it'll leave behind some tracks depending upon the exact angle you use it at. So for me, riding the cap to the degree it still shaves but leaves behind some tracks seems the best balance with this razor. However, the range of angles it will tolerate without causing irritation seems narrower than what I'm accustomed to. The general feedback I've encountered about this razor online is that it's extremely "smooth" yet also very "efficient." I'll leave aside my quarrels with the (non-)definitions of those terms, and simply say I consider this razor rather distinctly more aggressive than my Edwin Jagger. By that I mean it is more demanding in the precision with which it must be operated in order to achieve a good result without unwanted 'side effects.'
Nice shave, Joe! A side question-- Is the fact that your razor there has the general form and appearance of a straight razor, but uses replaceable blades, the thing that makes it a "shavette"?

July 7 SOTE Headshave Good evening. 1955 Gillette RedTip Gillette Permasharp SS DE Blade (fresh) Van Der Hagen Shea Butter Aqua Velva Ice Blue AS Stirling Alum Block Lucky Witch Hazel Dome Turf: 3.25 Days AS promised, I did a headshave this evening. I went with the RedTip because it is a mild razor and I knew it would be up to the task to shave a 3.25 day dome growth, especially with a fresh blade. I choose the Van Der Hagen Shea Butter because it's been in my den for years and want to finish it. It isn't as slick as Cremo, but it is slick enough to use as a shave. It can also be used as a preshave and/or postshave. To use the VdH Shea Butter, rub the butter in the palm of your wet hands and apply to the areas that need shaving. I only needed 2 passes plus touch-ups orange error less just shy of cueball smooth shave. The alum was mostly silent. Finished this shave with the treatment of witch Hazel and the Ice Blue aftershave. Take care.
