Being a newbie, I have only tried a few blades. I can say that currently my go to would have to be Astra SPs.
ASTRA SP is the best blade I have in stock at the moment. They are sharp, comfortable and the quality control seems to be more consistent than with Derby Extra and lately even Feather. I understand the factory that produces them is owned by Gillette and is located in St. Petersburg, Russia. Good Shave all round........
Personna labs. Gillette 7 o'clock black. Feather. This could change weekly when I rotate a new blade in.
Persona 100 pack made in USA the 2024--2025 I got them in April 2025 from e-Bay due to how on Amazon the price had at the time gone up to $25 and was not the $17 they had been since I got my Persona 100 pack made in USA 2017 set. Now the Persona 100 pack made in USA is back to more normal around $19--$20 more whare the set should be due to USA economics. Before I got my Gillette Adjustable slim handle model in May + cased backup in June, I would have said for my Micro Touch One the Persona 100 pack made in USA 2017 was better because the blade was slightly less sharp which is good unlike the one time, I used the Persona 100 pack 2024--2025 made in USA in my Micro Touch One because the newer blades are thinner so the blades are sharper despite being the same sharpness level. Second choice are the King C Gillette if the made in China model because those are made with less edge chatter then the early unknown I might still have a few, I removed from package to fit in my Persona 100 pack made in USA 2017 era when I got the King C Gillette from a month after they sold them in my local Walgreens.
My all round daily blades are:- 1. Gillette Minora Stainless (Russian) ... They're the same as #3 rebranded. 2. Gillette Nacet (Russian) 3. Gillette Stainless (red & white) ... Russian made, no longer in production anymore 4. Wizamet Super Iridium (Russian) 5. Vintage Gillette Aussie 'Gold' Spoiler ... Australian made 6. Vintage Gillette US Super Stainless (spoiler) 7. Vintage NOS England Wilkinson Sword 8. Vintage Wizamet Polsilver Brown Stainless
They still make number 8 on the list, just a new Polisilver in both Stainless and Platinum Stainless, that most countries except a few can buy. It is either made in Poland or Russia depending on the model.
Can you please post an image of the front and back DE pack, so I know what's going on in the current blade market. Cheers
loving some 1968 vintage n-3/4 gillette super silvers at the present.wonderful smooth/sharp blades..now i try to score them where and when i can.platinums, nacets and various other gillettes dominate the den now.KCG made in china blades are nice as well and available on scamazon..
I agree on the King C Gillette blades being very sharp especially the made in China blades because I think the brand buys cheap models that are unmarked blades from a company in bulk then uses an old Sharpening machine and lasers on the logo in the USA. The other option, what I have just learned, they use the Chinese Gillette factory for the cheap blades same place they make to sell the cheap 2--3 piece shaver also sold under the 7O'clock brand as the non plastic option then do in same factory some sharpening to the blades the Gillette brand does for the cheap just having better quality control where the lesser blades go to the Gillette Chinese brand and get a quicker treatment to the blades. I just do not use them much because the King C Gillette Chinese tend to last only 27--30 shaves with 31--32 pushing the blades, I went with in 2017 and some 2024--2025 Personna blades in the USA 100 pack because they were some of the last blades made for Safe-T-Shavers in the USA and some of the last made outside of countries like China, India that still made for the people who could not afford more than a cheap butterfly or screw in, Russia in mid 1990's simply trying to run out the product/sell blades from the 1--2 factories from the old USSR. You can still find Gillette Super Silver modern shaver and some models like Astra or the Gillette Blue Lab if looking for 1950's to 1980's modern type blades before they were no longer being sold. Only problem is the Gillette Russian versions of most of these blades have become hard to find. Even other brands have modern equivalents like Bic, Dorco is still making a blade the company made in the 1970's, Treet still makes a bunch plus one of the last thick carbon steel models for older shavers that people use.
I like the modern no logo Personna Made in USA 100 pack I got in early 2025 that is a 2024--2025, the Blade is good for shaving and better than the old set I got that are same 2017 made era in my now current shaver Gillette Adjustable slim handle. I would say the first era of Black logo on both sides of King C Gillette blades but the company stopped making those or at best made those hard to find within the first year for cheaper King C Gillette Chinese that normally come with an outer wrapper over the wax with a printed on computer aided drawing of the blade but I remove that Wrapper when putting them into my 2017 Personna made in USA 100 pack just to have the blades slide in easier. The Cheaper King C Gillette I would like but they take 3--5 shaves to dull in a hair where the blade is not super sharp where I have to be careful shaving and only last max of 30--31 shaves if lucky because the Newer King C Gillette can be as low as 26--27 shaves. This saying something because My Persona the new 2025--2024 made lasts about 40--45, the 2017 Persona lasts 45--50 usually but duds tend to last about 27--30 shaves like my last Personna 2017 was 28--29 shaves. I just hate on part of the Personna 2024--2025 is that after 5--7 shaves when the way too thick coating comes off the Personna 2024--2025, the blades then can I do the usual 3--4 shaves to dull in a bit whereas, I can shave with the other Persona 2017 after 3 to 4 shaves after the 1--2 shaves where the coating comes off and the older Personna has been this way since 2017.
Wow. I have used any of those blades in well over a decade. It has been a few years since i regularly used a de, but at the time I enjoyed Gillette Silver Blue or Permasharp Super. For the last few years I have been using Schick Proline AC blades in a RR V3A.
I am surprised that the Gillette Silver Blue and Gillete Permasharp blades all models those outside of Russia can get the blades given how some other Gillette models are hard to find due to sanctions most countries have on Russian goods like the Russian Gillette 7'Oclock versions of the model.
I probably haven't purchased any DE blades in 8-10 years. These Russian blades were purchased in 2015 when the Ruble collapsed and they were available rather inexpensively. I have almost exclusively been using Artist Club blades for the last few years. I probably should downsize my DE hoard.
At least in the USA you can find these blades for a good price around $0.07 to $0.11 per individual blade, same for Astra though with the Russian blades Permasharp they are harder to find outside of 100 packs glued to the cardboard unlike Gillette blue you can find them in different sizes for normal sale even all 100 taken off the cardboard and Astra you can find in the 100 pack case with the 5 individual shavers in them. Artist Club is the main place of only a few to find the Permasharp in the USA, with the rest lucky on getting it in as they have supply issues running out quickly as to be expected most of the time given the state of Russia right now. Good luck on downsizing your stash.
