One of the best shavers I have used but then I have only used an older pre Rick Harris endorsed Micro Touch One I got new in 2017 because the packaging all dented up and top taped back on as it was ripped open in my local Walgreens prior to this exact era of Gillette Adjustable shaver I got in late April of 2025 with a case backup in June 2025. With light mods to the backup the case cover by removing some bottom end plastic it fits barely my Micro Touch One I will only use for plane travel. My Micro Touch was slowly dying in 2024 so I was looking at new adjustable models but then locked up in March 2025 where I had to throw the device on the floor to open. I had to buy a Shaver replacement due to my not finding anything in Butterfly for adjustable shaving The Viking has different combs, the only good model was a no go with only one meting all the criteria was if I bought the expensive Rockwell T2 shaver that is now $150 but was $140--$150 when I was looking earlier this year. This lack of models that do not die like the Weishi adjustable or have flaws like the Viking Emperor series with the no comb/wider closed comb sides ended with getting the Gillette Adjustable same era as you have for $32.77 and then a backup with case for $36.87. I did not want to spend more than $50--$60 on an adjustable butterfly model where almost all of the comments do not say it eventually dies in some way or has some kind of flaw like the Viking Emperor series where the users have complaints because the no comb/deeper closed combs are so different.
Not too shabby, just some green oxidation at the base of the handle, I don't plan to mess with that though.
I had to get rind of this on my non case Adjustable slim handle but that had some odd buildup in the blue green oxidization possibly a micro bit of shaving cream in as well from the original owner the seller got the Gillette Adjustable slim handle on the comb/parts in head for the adjustment and the open bottom of the twist knob so it would tighten up all the way, I had to get rid of the green blue possibly shaving cream/junk so I could use my shaver as the green blue was in the way of parts functioning properly and built up in parts. The other with case much nicer only having to remove some blue green around the open part on the twist knob so it could spin better without locking up while twisting as the bottom pin, was coated in the junk so it would not spin. I also did use rubbing alcohol on both shavers carefully wiping off in the head section to clean/disinfect them before using just in case somebody left say dead skin on the shaver head area, something brown-red, like an old scab came off the shaver along with the chrome in that small odd area. I have used the case model one time to sse how it works and it is fine just like my other; it is rather nice for being unrestored, I do not want to use that shaver until I have to.
My dad uses one of these he got from a no longer running Antiques store in 2017 about a month before I got a new Safe-T Shaver I used from 2017 to late April 2025. I ended up using his shaver one time by accident on vacation soap or shampoo in my eyes in 2019 getting to use in shower and gives a very good shave, better than I would have guessed for how mild it is (aggressive mild) the one time I used the shaver with a new blade I got from my pack I ended up putting into my shaver a Micro Touch One the model I used at the time. Now I use a Gillette Adjustable slim handle as of late April 2025 without a case and got another backup in June with case to also hold the slowly dying Micro Touch One but to also have my backup of a less common shaver in the Gillette Adjustable.
I have about 500 of the what I consider the best modern blades - Gillette Platinum MiR. Shavers say the Chinese one are nowhere near and many complains
Almost all Chinese blades have flaws. Now I have an idea based this on what I know King C Gillette Chinese compared to the early runs of King C Gillette leave something to be desired because they need time to dull in more than other blades at 4--5 sometimes 6 shaves for me to the part where I like blades for a good while then maybe a day on the flip to the bottom side for most but this but this takes at least 2 shaves. My theory is that the Chinese blades all so thin they take longer to dull in to where they are not so sharp because the Chinese think this is the way to have normal average sharpness but not really because of how thin the blades are they end up thinner thus sharper overall due to being so thin but a crappy kind of sharp where the blade edge is not very smooth. Almost all Chinese/Taiwan blades are very thin with a few exceptions like some made super cheap and dull from the start. Some to take this to the extreme to the point some made in Taiwan for China originally are the thinnest blades ever made at 0.35 mm and called the Thinnest production made ever blade on AliExpress when trying to find all the Chinese blades for Bager & Blade thread (before I was ban on B & B in another thread) that leave most people wanting more thickness because the non-cutting sides end up cutting the shaver.
My dad has a similar era Aristocrat he got in 2017 at a few years later defunct antiques store only his is not the gold plaited look or if it was that part was gone when he got and is now the red brass that is now very slowly turning black.
