Thanks Gary. It helps that we were in the same profession and being similar in ages, backgrounds and political affiliations.
Hi Chris, and thanks. I stretch my skin regardless of direction and make all sorts of funny faces too. On my neck, I even manage to get very close and comfortable shaves with a single ATG pass. Really don't have a problem if I take short, slightly overlapping strokes while constantly repositioning my off hand to keep my old dude skin stretched. I even found it helpful to keep a dry piece of tissue in my off hand to get a better grip. It's not a pretty sight, but it works. Learning to use a shavette helped me become comfortable using most razors. It also made skin stretching near automatic as a means of conserving my blood and saving money on first aid supplies.
I find with the Gillette Adjustable slim handle that I keep the same shaving but I change the dial up by 1 so it can go a hair more aggressive for me, I rarely go up more than 1 more on the dial when doing most of the shaving unless I have to go back doing all of it with more blade exposer due to how the blade was not even close like it was yesterday the 29th of July having to go from the 3--4 was between the two by accident when shaving yesterday the 29th of July even though I was clearly a 4 when shaving my chin. I have had less cuts using my adjustable the way I do it then by trying to force a number for the whole shave. I did on July 29th go back and do it all on 5 because the shave was not really good, my problem of not starting out higher in number. I used to have the Micro Touch One an older pre Rick Harris endorsement I got in 2017 new, and at times I got more cuts than I do now because I would sometime go too aggressive on the chin or moustache area most of the time because they were hard to reach spots or the hair was rougher on parts of the chin. Now with the Gillette adjustable slim handle I can turn the dial up 1 number for rougher hair on my chin and use for the hard to reach area at the same go with same norma l technique to be more aggressive then do the moustache on 3 sometimes 4 or more if needed. Now my old Micro Touch one was like 1.5--2 in shaving with the adjustable Gillette slim handle dial where the blade thickness depended on the dial aggression of 1.5--2 like the older Persona Made in USA 100 pack 2017 being thicker was a 1.5 and the Persona Made in USA 100 2024--2025 is thinner so that is more like 2 and the King C Gillette made in China were almost too aggressive for the Micro Touch One where as now I can use the blades having that 1 on the dial when the King C Gillette made in China is still new. King C Gillette is only more aggressive even if the same sharpness as a Persona blade due to the fact the blade is thinner, why I feel like I would not really like any of the Chinese made blades when they talk about how thin the blade is with one model from Taiwan claiming on being the thinnest shaving blade ever mass produced at 0.53 mm thick. With my Micro Touch One, I only said the model in case the model that Micro Touch One used had changed from the older Weishi model of plaited bras to now being different like the only about $1--$1.50 cheaper Stainless-Steel model or something like this.
10-4 Joe. We all gotta do whatever works. I see a bit of difference going from a low to high setting, maybe not so much going up or down slightly. The adjustability seems more like a marketing gimmick to me than anything. However, I do love my adjustables as they remind me of my Dad.
Sounds like you've settled on a system that works for you, Casey. The cool thing for me is that I occasionally learn something new to try that helps me get better shaves. My 1- and 2-pass shaves now are much better than the 4-pass shaves from years ago because of the things I learned from the 30 Day Crew. Over that period of time, I made a bunch of small changes that transformed my shaves. Learning never stops, so I hope to keep trying new things.
Just having the new better shaver seems to have helped me with the dial for what I need when and where on the face. I could do the same in just getting a slightly more aggressive shaver then the Micro Touch One/Weishi model of shaver I was using then just change my aggression, but I find that keeping the shaving the same but changing the dial for my needs works better with less chance of overdoing the aggression if you only go up 1--2 numbers.
