-Monday- No.58 Yaqi Ruby Hawkins & Brimble good morning gents fabulous work shave fine lather, smooth 2 passer, minor pickups matching balm to finish awesome have a fine day everyone
Monday November 3 ( morning) - No Theme November Prep: Hot shower with Aleppo olive oil and 20% bay laurel oil soap (traditional anti-acne); followed by cold water pre-shave face rinse Razor: Matte black stainless steel Supply 2.0 injector with "nick-proof" SE comb plate / Supply White Label (house-branded Personna)(8?) Soap: Crown Shaving Co. shave cream Brush: Jayaruh #JR276 white ash handle with Omega Pro 49 boar knot Lather Bowl: None Post: rinse, alum, rinse, Crown Shaving Co. Soothing After Shave Balm Last shave: Friday October 31 ( morning) - 3 days ago The setup: I am doing cold water shaves now so I rinse my face with cold water instead of hot before shaving. However, with the big boar brush, I soaked the boar knot itself in hot water for a couple minutes before starting, because I find that softens the boar knot more reliably. The Crown Shaving Co. cream is still soft - unlike many of my other shave creams. One quick dip of the bristles into the tub was all the as needed to load the brush. It face lathered well with either swirling or painting motions. Two passes of the razor had me back to cleanshaven. First pass WTG everywhere and second pass XTG on the face and ATG on the neck. Alum block was quiet. I probably didn't need it, but the matching balm made a pleasant finish. The blade still seemed fine, but I have no idea how many shaves are actually on it, so I binned it. I will continue the month with a fresh blade. Hope everyone had a good summer / fall and a decent Halloween!
Thanks, Gary! I just realized how nice it is to be back and to be reading something as friendly, peaceful and generally non-bloody as daily shaving ritual reports. (Though if Sweeney Todd ever joins the 30DC and starts giving reports on meat pie recipes ... I'm outta here...)
Great shave and photo, Gary, as usual. Beautiful razor set too. I do have two questions: 1. I am not familiar with Hawkins & Brimble. Clearly UK-based, but old company? New company? Worth trying? And if so, which Canadian dealer stocks them? 2. I know what Ginseng is, but what is Elemi and what is its fragrance like?
Real pleasant shave this morning. It took a while for the brush to settle in with the Bill Neumann-maybe because I hadn't used that particular BN(Heartwood)for a long time. All worked out in the end, though. I was scrounging around to find a good aftershave to match the Heartwood(The Heartwood A.S. is either missing or I flipped it). The Gabels Original works fine. The combination of the two left me with a real clean, soft face and neck. No incidents of negativity. As Outstanding As It Gets.
thank you John.i would say top shelf.the balm is unscented, but the cream has a really classy scent to it,best in the biz for massed produced stuff imo..well woth a go.and not expensive.fendrihans has it..they are a relatively new company.all available on amazon .ca as well..

4 Nov 2025 3 Days growth (getting slack there for a while) Cream/Soap = T&H Sandalwood Brush = Razorock Plissoft Bowl = Timeless black Razor = Muhle Rocca 96, 80+ grams Blade = Euromax (2) nice and smooth Passes = 2 and some strategic touch ups Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayer’s rose petal Minor sting from the Alum ASB = TOBS Royal Forest ASL = Proraso Rinfrescante Scent = Sandalwood EdT, Oud Arabian sunset to the pulse points Great shave after a few shabby days Euromax still fine after its second outing, but decided to bin it anyway Still liking the heft of the Muhle Rocca 96, the second razor I bought after the R89.
Today's shave was a 10/10 as I used dial 2 with 0 cuts. I got a full BBS today as expected on dial 2. Today was Personna USA 100 pack day 3 topside/total. I used, as always, my H 2 or 1962 Gillette Adjustable slim handle shaver without the case. I shaved after the shower, so I did not need to use my shave lotion/soap home concoction on my face, but I kept the blade wet as needed and at first wet my face down. I did like most days since late 2017 a partial clean opening up the shaver in middle of shave to keep going before the final clean at the end but did the partial clean 2 times in middle of shave.
Great shave report, Barry! Like the photo with all the fall-coloured maple leaves in the background. For some reason, I always thought Guy Fawkes Day was in February...
Great shave and pic, Chris! The Muhle Rocca 96 is a razor that I have always liked the look of. I especially liked the version with the cork handle. I considered buying one not long ago (well, April) but ended up going with a Henson Medium instead. Actually, I intend to break in the Henson this month (finally), so I suppose this will then be New Razor November for me...
