Hey Charlie! It's always nice to see you post every so often. I am sure you had a great time in Eire. I humbly do my best at the 50+ Christian Singles events and Christian coffeehouse on Long Island. As a Southern gentlemen, I am sure you are quite adept at holding your own when it comes to social affairs.

Wonderfully shave John. Clipping a skin tag had to hurt. I am fortunate that my tags are further down on my neck where it does not require shaving.

Today's shave was a 8/10 as I used dial 4 I got a BBS/nearly on some parts today on dial 4 but got a bunch of cuts but due to the BBS/nearly I gave 8/10. I wish that hairs were not growing where my cuts were and that I had not gone more aggressive on my shave, I forgot I was on Dial 4 starting out thinking I was on 3 still. This time the bleeding stopped sooner then the last time I had issues. Today was Personna USA 100 pack from 2017, day 9 topside/total.

I used, as always, my H 2 or 1962 Gillette Adjustable slim handle shaver without the case.

I shaved before the shower, so I did use some pump Dial dispenser with cheap Walgreens Equate soap water mix for the soap inside on my face where I kept the blade wet as needed and face was soaped up. I did like most days since late 2017 a partial clean opening up the shaver in middle of shave to keep going before the final clean at the end but did the partial clean 2 times in middle of shave. I did have to shave while in the shower on two parts of the face before another final dry off using the shower to clean the shaver better.

My mistake was not checking the shaver thinking it was on 3 not 4 when shaving for other cut on the Chin/Jawline area then trying to get the spot with the cuts with the shaver because hairs actually grew in where the cuts still were. Those cuts took a 1/2 hour the first time early in the week to heal so they will take a long time to get fully gone. I was stretching skin on the neck doing the neck tilt when the cuts happened due to dial 3, I thought I was on. The final mistake was going before I had showered knowing I had not shaved the day between. I was not going BBS/nearly BBS but going just above that knowing I had skipped a day, just happens I got the BBS/nearly BBS on the rest of my face.

I had 3 major mistakes, one of them was even trying on the neck in one spot forgetting about the cuts, thinking they had healed already. The other was too aggressive forgetting the dial was 4 not 3 for blade sharpness on the chin cut. Last was going before the shower having skipped a day between shaves as a mistake.

    Greetings,

A new shave set up to start the weekend.

The Palmolive shave Stick is something I'll always have in my shaving den, purely because it never fails to provide me with such a slick protective lather in a short space of time with a superb fragrance. I'm fortunate that I have enough of these classic shave sticks to last me a life time.

It's been a while since I last used the DERBY USTA blades and was pleasantly surprised how smooth & efficient these blades paired up with the Edwin Jagger DE89 (Kelvin)..Like most people when I first started out I had a really bad experience putting the horrible shave experience down to the Derby Extra blade thinking it was a dud from a bad batch when looking back now the main reason why Derby Extras gets such bad reviews is because back most people got a free tuck of 5 blades with their first DE razor when first entering the wonderful world of traditional wet shaving, and many of us, "yours truly included" lacked the technique & shaving confidence at that point in time, pointing the bad shave experience on the Derby extra or the DE razor.

What I've learned from this is you cannot judge give a true opinion any shaving product on how it performs after just one shave, that's why I've now started to give all of DE razors & blades a good run instead of reaching for my regular favourites that I know work.

A close comfortable face & head shave to start my weekend.

Finishing the shave off a with a few small dollops of Nivea Men Replenishing PSB.

My face & precious swede are feeling smooth and smelling divine.;)

Stay safe, and enjoy the start of the weekend ladies & gentlemen.

Great FatBoy shave, Joe! I notice that you didn't hesitate to dump your blade mid-shave when it seemed to be under-performing. Good show! Blades are cheap and plentiful for us; no need to act like a WW1 doughboy issued a Gillette razor and one tuck of carbon steel blades with no more blades available for months until the next furlough in Paris or London...

Excellent Saturday shave, Barry! Among other things, shave sticks are a great piece of travel kit.

I think you might be right about the cause of much of the dislike of Derby blades. They have always struck me as perfectly adequate even if they aren't my favourites.

I disagree with you about being unable to judge a piece of shaving gear - especially blades - after just one shave. You obviously never tried certain Chinese brands of blade. I think they were Tiger brand - or was it Eagle? Or maybe both. When he was moderating this thread, Neal @NCoxSTL tried dozens of brands of blades, including them. He found them completely unusable as did everyone else who ever used them. The consensus was that they were probably made from "steel" recycled from rusted junked cars after all the good engine parts had been stripped out...

Thank you, John., I agree the they are certain Chinese blade brands that should be avoided like the plague! However , that said I' have and used the Tiger platinum , but these aren't made in China and have had good results with them, but these could be exception to the rule.
