    Hello All,
I've been interested in using a straight razor for some time now and finally decided to pull the trigger.

Is there a chance that any retailer will have good options for a Black Friday sale?

Unknown. Just buy a reputable razor, and send it out to have it honed by a professional. My suggestion would be to get two. That way, if one is off getting honed, you will have one that is ready to work.

That's my plan. I had a nice Sheffield vintage picked out this morning but it was sold before I got home!

Now, get that professionally honed, and enjoy.

I actually took nearly a year before I finally started to use the razor. As you might expect, I was overly hesitant during the first few shaves and lets just say the shaves were nothing to talk about. As a bonus, I started to nick the strop and even managed to put a slice in it about half way down. I continued to use the strop and figured I could avoid the damaged area while stropping effectively.
As it turns out, I trashed the edges of two new razors to the point I couldn't tolerate shaving with them. For better or worse, I purchased a basic strop, as a replacement, before starting with a third razor. I then sent the first two off to be rehoned....the Focus when to Glen, as planned above.
Today I got it back and I can't wait to use it tomorrow night!!!

    Enjoy the ride,
    Jay

Get your stropping muscle memory down by practicing with a butter knife.

    It’s a longer learning curve - I don’t think I was semi-comfortable until around 30 shaves…
