Gilette Fatboy handle twist not working like it used to

I have a vintage Fatboy which has served me well for a long time. I notice that now when I twist the handle, it doesn't give that final little twist when it pushes the blade up against the top of the razor. It still does push the razor blade up to the top but it goes right to the end of the twisting. It doesn't do that thing where I would twist it, it would catch, then you twist it just a little more to have it fully push the blade up. I can still shave with it, but is this the sign that something is broken inside that I can fix? I do not mean the numbered dial just below the head of the razor, I mean the actual long handle that you twist to lock the blade in place.
    Thanks for any help.

Before you attempt to take it apart try giving it a good soak in a strong solution of dish soap. Sometimes they just get dried soap buildup and need a good cleaning and lube.

The dish soap can work, but might effect the finish if soaked too long. I have this issue all the time. I soak the razor in some hot water then work some shampoo, or hand soap in the bottom of the handle. Twist open and closed many times, while working the soap in and water with it. This always gets the buildup out, and has the razor working like new. I did this to my Fatboy Razor and my wife's Gillette Starburst, just the other week.
