One more wetshaving artisan company that has faded out over the long haul? I still miss Jeeves of Hudson Street. And regret the loss of the venerable Canadian J.M.Fraser's Shaving Cream production line to the dislocation of the global Covid pandemic...
I plan to spend this last 30DC month as "Do Whatever You Want December". And since my last shaves in November worked so well, I think what I want to do is use that same set of gear for December -- probably not a strict Rule but more a self-imposed Focus: Wednesday December 3 (evening) - Do Whatever You Want December Prep: Hot shower with Aleppo olive oil and 20% bay laurel oil soap (traditional anti-acne); followed by cold water pre-shave face rinse Razor: Matte black stainless steel Supply 2.0 injector with "nick-proof" SE comb plate / Supply White Label (house-branded Personna)(5) Soap: TOBS Lavender shave cream (croap) Brush: Simpson's Chubby 2 Synthetic Lather Bowl: None Post: rinse, alum, rinse, TSD Lavender Shave Milk splash Last shave: Wednesday November 26 (evening) - 7 days ago The setup: Since my last two shaves went so well, I just repeated the setup and the steps - with one exception: I used Lavender instead of Vanilla Shave Milk for the finish. Overall, I got the same excellent result as for my last two shaves. Two passes of the razor had me back from a 7-day scruff to cleanshaven. First pass was WTG everywhere and second pass was XTG on the face and ATG on the neck. I avoided doing a third pass to get to BBS as that is one pass too far and will be the one that results in mild razorburn. Once again, I paid special attention to skin stretching, especially on my neck. The result was a very smooth shave with no nicks, blood spots or razorburn. The alum was completely silent at the end. The TSD splash provided a pleasant finish with a bit of moisturizing for the current dry cold weather. Hope the week is going well for everyone!
Great shave with a great combination of Red Tip and Galahad C3. Admirable Mais out! it's the technique that is priceless, n'est pas? Very nice shave, not sure I have seen the Vie Long Shave stick before, or maybe the little grey cells are fading. Fantastic result John.
4th Dec 2025 Nothing to report except a repeat shave and setup with near BBS result and no damage Off to lunch with my eldest son Stay well one and all
Thank you Chris...I have featured the Vie -Long Shave stick before in my shave set ups, sadly another superb shave stick no longer made. When I first got the LEA shave stick I wasn't aware that it was the new non-tallow lanolin and glycerin version which is a great stick in it's own right, however I was informed that the Vie Long Shave stick had the same ingredients as the LEA tallow stick and was curious to compare it with the added tallow , which gives a slightly better overall performance. I like Spanish made shaving products. The La Toja classic & sensitive shave creams + shave sticks has discontinued production which is a shame, fortunately I have two unopened La Toja sticks, + one Vie -Long stick in my soap collection which will keep me going for quite some time.
Today's shave was an 8/10 as I used dial 2 but moved to dial 3 as dial 2 was not enough. I got 3 cuts with 1 not wanting to stop bleeding and opened the skin cut while achieving nearly a BBS shave. Today was Personna USA 100 pack from 2017, day 7 topside/total. I do flip the blade over around 16 and count the flipped side amount with also a total overall. I used, as always, my H 2 or 1962 Gillette Adjustable slim handle shaver without the case. I shaved before the shower, but I only used water on the blade/head of shaver to help with feel, so I did not cut myself, but this failed I still kept the blade/head of shaver wet as needed. I did do a partial clean in middle of shave at about 70%--80% and did a final full clean at the end.
Great Throwback Thursday shave. I decided to feature the AGARWOOD scent, which came about 7 centuries before I did, so that qualifies as a Throwback . About 0:40 at the Loading Dock with the Stoylin soap. Fine overall shave. Had to work a bit harder than usual up at North Porcupine, but got it done.. No incidents of negativity. 2 healthy passes. Agadir A.S. gives me such a pleasant close. Might re-order when this is out. Super Duper Outstanding.
He went home to be with the Lord. He was a good guy and was very supportive of the shaving community.
Thank you John. I will miss this site. It made my journey much easier and I will never forget it. I have seen other sites and do not have a similar thread like this one to assist newbies.
I just received a package from @Chris B all the way from Australia. The contents were: In my wildest dreams, I never thought that I would ever be able to try the now unobtainium MWF. Thank you for your generosity and for making it possible for me to have not one, but 2 pucks of MWF Chris.
It must have happened during one of the periods when I wasn't visiting the TSD forums much, because I missed that news. I am very sorry to hear that. He was a good man and a pillar of the shaving fraternity here.
I agree. I ended up mainly on TSD instead of Badger & Blade or one of the other sites because if the 30DC.
Congratulations all around on this one! It's nice that you will have a chance to try this legendary soap, Joe. And it was generous of you to send it, Chris! A prime example of why I have liked being a part of the TSD community.
It happened March 2024 and one of the members told me and said not to mention it, but now I didn't see the harm of sharing it. I wanted to acknowledge Chris who was the original moderator and supported me to take over from successors.
