Problem with Gillette AS Lotion (Sensitive)

While the wife was picking up a few things at Walmart, I thought I would see what the shaving aisle contained. My eye was drawn to Gillette AS Lotion 'Sensitive Skin". At $1.92 I thought I would take a gamble.

After my usual shave routine this morning, I applied this AS and could immediately feel my cheeks starting to burn. My cheeks were red all day! I normally use Nivea AS balm or Body Shop Razor Relief with no problems, but I definitely had some kind of reaction to some ingredient(s).

Anybody else have a problem with Gillette AS Lotion?

I've never tried this product, but I did buy a Gillette AS splash a few months back. It too burned like the fires of Hades and stunk like cheap perfume. Seems Gillette needs to do some work in their aftershave department.

I'd been using the Fusion balm, but I was decidedly meh about it. I just ran out this morning, and now that I've added AV to my rotation I have no urgent need to replace it.

I've been using the Gillette stuff for years with no problems, but have never seen the sensitive skin one.

I havent contributed to Gillette in over a year. Much better stuff out there even if it is the Nivea.

Don't feel too bad about that. It's not our father's (or even our older brother's) Gillette anymore.

The only thing that really attracted me to the Fusion balm was the pump. I didn't have to think about it. One shot of goo and go. Now I need a replacement.

Aside from the DE razors they once made, and the DE blades they still make........Gillette is fairly useless.

I've posted, I think in another thread, my regrets of using the cheap CVS/Walgreens "Afta Shave" balm. It, like Gillette, is probably mostly alcohol with a tiny bit of moisturizer.

WK Simple, if you're looking for something relatively cheap and easy to find at, say, Wal-Mart, go for a bottle of Skin Bracer and one of Nivea's AS balms. I swaer by that method!

Since P&G bought 'em and eviscerated 'em, you can't even say Gillette makes blades anymore. Even Wikipedia calls Gillette "defunct".

Exactly what I had been doing! I use Nivea AS balm and Skin Bracer with great results. Just thought I would try something different. At $1.92 I guess you get what you pay for!:(

Personally I'm not much of a balm guy, but if you want to expand your horizons a bit I'm told the Brut balm is pretty good stuff. I saw a tube of it at Wal Greens the other day so they carry it. Also Stetson makes a shave balm that I do have (secret Santa gift). It smells nice and does the job. You can usually find Stetson products at the mall.

    Another good balm is EMJ.

Of course, Brut moisturizing ASB is damn hard to beat!!

I have had the exact same reaction to this product. I have a container of it taking up space next to the sink. I tried it out a while back, just to check, and didn't get a reaction. Now I'm thinking it's too much of a risk, especially since there are so many better products out there.

I don't use balms anymore- switched over to Skinbracer. While I was still using them, I found the Nivea balm to be a good product.
