But once again.. that is a small part of the picture.. do you guys think that it is part of a good plan to get things back on the road. those people need money to spend on all that. Without the big problems get fixed the ATV trail does not matter.

And are new trails going to help out there anyway?

I would have to say the new trails will help us. Maybe not this year but in the future. You would truly be amazed at how many tourists come here to ride there toys. I am talking hundreds.

Another thing to consider is this. We always look to the rich for taxes etc and say they can pay the taxes. Part of the thinking in this stimulus is that those financially stable will help out more than the guy who is really struggling. Those with the money are the ones who we need to keep spending.

Remember the money Bush sent out for the first stimulus. Like $600 each person or $1500 a household. A lot of people got that money that didn't need it. Was this an oversight, heck no. Those that didn't need it dumped it right back into the economy. Maybe a new TV or something else. Those that really needed it either spent it on groceries etc, which is still good, or SAVED it. The thought behind the Bush stimulus was the hope that people dumped it back into the economy. Some of those same principles are being used here, in my opinion.

ummm, wow, thanks...I don't hear that very often, I'm always the one stumbling around trying to find the right words and the message gets lost in translation....

I understand the idea behind "stimulus", and all the ATV trail supporters' arguments (and of course I know Zook who can be contrarian just for fun...shaved with any 12 blade cartridges lately? :D just kiddin' wid'ya!)
But we really do need to question and weight carefully every detail of government action, not just "oh this part meets my needs, whatever you have to do to make it happen" and let it go.
anyway, so far all my expectations of this new administration are coming true...ya'll buckle up

I'm just going to say that I didn't agree with the last one, and I don't agree with this one.

There is nothing to find a solution for. That's why spending 400 million dollars to research global warming is a complete waste of money.

The last stimulus package was 70 billion or so, wasn't it? This is more than ten times that. So I guess I can expect a check for at least $18,000 from the treasury (isn't that the department that uses the IRS to get that money back at some point?) this summer, right?

"Stimulus", what a crock. This bill looks like every other bill that ever goes through Congress, except that it's about 10,000 times as costly.

I am a Democrat and while I don't buy into the whole we are going to melt away into the sea. At the same time some of the stuff needs to be addressed. I myself am in the recycling business, not global warming related but recycling is good and related to the topic.

Regardless of my or your thoughts on global warming the research is going to happen. 400 million in this area means more jobs and might help out Joe Blow down the street.

But why in a stimulus package. It has nothing to do with stimulating anything. If you want to give people jobs invest in something that is going to create jobs for the majority of people that are out of work.

    Hi Fuzzy,

Some background that may or may not sway your throughts on this. First, the large number of unemployed and underemployed health care and medical sciences workers might surprise you. Pharma is taking a hammering like everyone else and the big expansions based on blockbuster drugs are now receeding. The Pfizer/Wyeth buyout is the biggest example.

Now, I am not here to defend the behaviours that lead to the spread of STD's. Your point is well taken there. However, the diseases still spread, there are known methods of community education and medical intervention that do have measured inpacts against the spread and Pharma has some interesting new things in the pipeline to help out.

Short term, we improve the health of America's workforce. Longterm, we sell the cures and methods overseas. I am baised, I admit it openly, but I think the Taxpayer stands to gain from this one.
