Boiling razors is always a risk. I have boiled quite a few without any problems. I boiled an Aristocrat Jr. the other day after it had undergone my usual cleaning process. It had a few nicks to the plating before boiling, now it has several. It was 'user grade' to begin with so not really an issue. I just wanted to get the scum out. Even after extensive soaking in warm water (with dish soap), scrubbing bubbles, and the toothbrush, quite a bit of "stuff" came out after boiling for only a few minutes. I like watching the little bubbles form on the razor.

Not sure where the idea of boiling became popular- but you would best serve your razors by CLEANING THEM WITH A TOOTHBRUSH using only Scrubbing Bubbles, Toothpaste (works wonders) or just Soap & Water.

PLEASE----- Everyone in the Wet Shaving World- STOP BOILING RAZORS.

If you are worried about germs, use Alcohol or Babercide.

It's really ironic- Everyone trys to re-create the barbershop experience with towels and hot lather and shave brushes----

Where did the barbers keep their giant pots of boiling water????

    They didn't!!! They used barbercide.

...and it worked so well that now it is pretty much illegal just about anywhere for a barber to give a shave unless they use disposable products. : )

I will continue to boil - sorry!!! (although not the plastic ones - uh huh)

I've literally boiled hundreds of razors and the only problem I ever had was with the Krona. Boiling an all metal razor should do no damage. For thick caked on soap scum it works much better than Scrubbing Bubbles. For cleaning lightly soiled razors SB is fine.

Just remember not to boil razors with plastic or aluminum on them.

and Plastic/heat = bad, as well

I partially melted a plastic injector, early in this game, myself.

    Note to future self:

    Dear Future Self;

When the Krona finally arrives (seller didn't realize I sent payment 2 weeks ago), no matter how cruddy looking it turns out to be... DO NOT.. I repeat DO NOT boil the Krona!

    Heat + plastic = bad

Inversely proportional to plastic - bad = -heat

I suggest a soak in alcohol and than going into an ultrasonic cleaner if your worried about messing up a razor.

  18. Scrubbing bubbles !!! Works great for all the peoples razors !

I've heard to keep it away from Bakelite. It is amazing stuff though.
