Collecting versus Accumulating - What is your Goal??

I have a small yet humble collection of shaving items. My biggest focus has been DEs, with some dabbling in Str8s. But, as time goes by I pick up the odd mug, shave stick holder, rusty old blades, dried up soaps, broken handles.....

How do you guys and gals define what your collection target is? When is enough enough? Is Razor Acquisition Disorder curable, or at least controllable?? How do you pace yourselves?

Please help an old incurable by sharing your ideas of what your collections mean to you, how you plan to let your goals unfold and what your targets are.

When I first got into wet shaving, I bought all sorts of razors. I had RAD. However, I never acquired any "collectible" razors. I did have a few nice examples of some razors. I have recently started selling off all but but one razor of each type that appeals to me.

 

I used to collect pipes. I have probably 200 now sitting in pipe racks and in boxes. I learned from that and decided to only collect a few razors so they'll all be used and enjoyed and not just sit and collect dust.

Unfortunately, I don't do that with shaving soaps...:ashamed001

 

Right now I am interested in gathering "user" razors that appeal to me and get the job done. At some point I'll be interested in versions of my fav razors that are "Minty" enough to just look at. My RAD is currently directed at soaps, creams and of course blades! I have pretty much chosen a razor style, now to find the blade and lathering product that works for me.

 

I collect razors, but I mostly collect to use them. I don't need them to be mint, I kind of want one of everything though...

Soaps, creams, aftershaves etc, I have no excuse, I just accumulate them.

 

I agree with rodd..I collect the user ones.. I have a few nice users, but I do not pay the higher prices at all.

I collect shaver quality razors to use and try to have one of each basic type. Of course when buying lots or impulse buying I end up with extras which I will eventually let go.

 

I'm an accumulator pure and simple.

 

My goal is to amass as many razors as I can, corner the market and acquire untold sums of money, retire on a private island, hire some wall street ass clown that was partially responsible for the collapse of our economy scrub my bathroom floor and have a harem of playmates at my beckon call.

 

I am still trying to collect at leats one of EVERY DE razor that Gillette ever made, and I am pretty damn close too.......................................

Prove it! I want pictures! I am far from that goal personally.

 

I have a little collection going, but I don't consider myself a collector. I only want to keep ones I will use. Shaver grade is fine for me, they don't have to be all minty and shiny.... I only have 6 or 7 right now, and 2 of those are loaners (to me)...

 

I don't collect and I fight the urge to accumulate on a daily basis. I've pared my accumulations down to 3 razors- two usable and one broken. I'm considering passing on one of the usables so I'll have just one functional razor. And if anyone wants a red tip with a very fixable bent bar, send me a PM. You can have it for free.

 

I only use 1 or 2 DE's that I currently have. The rest are awaiting the remodel of my basement bathroom for display. It's hard to find any more razors, as the shops I frequent don't get any new or different razors worth buying, since I bought them all already. And, I try to avoid e-bay. I think the prices are artificially inflated, which really sucks.

These questions make me uncomfortable. I do not wish to face my addiction at the present time.

 

I only have four razors, three creams, and two soaps....but I have about 12 different after shaves (gels, balms, and splashes combined). I'm not sure what I am just yet...

 

I collect them to be users. I have one NIB Tech that I got cause it was really cheap.

Now I do not really buy any more razors unless I see something that I can use to PIF for a newbie.

I have no room on my razor rack on my bathroom wall for anymore razors. In fact I keep a few that I use occasionally in a drawer or stacked above one of the cabinets on the bathroom wall.

I guess I have over come the hated RAD. Oh I will still buy a GEM or ER lather catcher style razor if it is one that I do not have and of course is not priced way out of my range.

It is nice to see the guys with all the museum quality razors but for me, why buy it if I can't use it?

I had AD for splashes, balms and creams. But I plan to finish all of them so yay.
