Here's my military issue GEM Junior from the WWII era. Tom found the following info in Waits:

It would appear to be a Gem Jr. Service issue razor. It is described as having a "Dull finish metal alloy handle". It looks dark gray or black in the picture. It was packaged in one of those sliding black plastic cases similar to other Gem and Star service razors of that era. The blades that came with it were marked "For U.S. Armed Forces." There is a cardboard outer sleeve that shows how to open the plastic case. The set is identified as being c.1943.

I have yet to see another like it.

but the one that I have is a plastic handle not metal intresting..

I have both 1912 and 1914 models the shave is so similar as to be identical to me. But YMMV (hope brother does not see that)

you know, honestly, im not 100% on that. i want to say they were for those who were just starting out shaving, but ive never seen it directly advertised as such. its true, as time went on they had somewhat smaller handles, but when they first came on the scene, they were no shorter than any of their counterparts.

I will add this.. that big handle one is a great shaving razor.. easy to handle no problems to get use to at all,, does look funky.

another Gem question.. did they make a set that had a seperate handle just for the stropper attachment.? I got a stropper in today with a mismatch set. it looks like the handle on my 1900 Superior. has the bumps on it. But it not made to be the bottom of a handle. At least I do not think it is.

yes, in a few sets. yours though is probably just a razor handle with the attachment in it.

If it were part of a handle would it have threads on the inside of it., this one does not.

well, yes if it was the top part of the handle. if it was the lower part it would not.

    OK... now....

Lets make sure I have things straight. I have 3-4 Ever-Ready SE razors that have the tab in back that you push up and it hinges in front. Inside it says "Ever Ready BRKLYN.N.Y. U.S.A. PAT APP'D FOR' No other markings on them. Handle screws in directly under the head with a 10-32 thread. Is this the Pat 1914 ever-ready or am I calling it by the wrong Pat year?

OK... next question for my Gemucation.... Are the Jr.s marked in some way? Or is this something you just know from looking at them? I have 5 1912 GEMs. 2 are Damaskeene, and the other 3 all just have GEM, Brooklyn, NY on in the inside, GEM on the back, and Pat'd 1912 where the handle screws in. I am assuming none of them are Jr. Models, but how does one know?
