These days the majority of corn and soy is genetically modified. These are frightening times for foodies and farmers. I've about got soy nixed from my diet, the corn products are much harder to avoid.
I also know of a coke released during passover that is made with cane sugar. I was young when I had it, and someone called it Kosher Cola but it didn't say that on the bottle (I think they were simply joking about the seasonality). If I remember correctly the cap was a different color? But also I believe it said on the bottle that it was different.
Well there's your problem! I'm doing more cooking, so I'm using actual ingredients instead of just chucking a tray in the microwave. Big case in point is popcorn. I can get a much better grade of popcorn online, then pop it with some peanut oil and popcorn salt (which you can make yourself by running some kosher salt through your food processor). Much tastier and much healthier than the microwave brands.
I have never seen different formulations of a favorite pop sold here. Didn't even know they did such a thing in fact. I did notice while overseas in the Navy that Coke tastes different though. Prob. due to the factors being discussed in this thread. What kinds of stores (besides sometimes Costco) are you guys finding this stuff in?
Thanks Bong. Looks like you guys already hit that website up. The Mexican formula Coke is out of stock! Funny thing is I've been to Mexico, but don't recall the Coke tasting drastically different. Of course I drink diet Coke because I like the taste better. That could have something to do w/ it. Interesting discussion. The things you learn at TSD. :happy088
Here's some good links: Soda Reviews Online Soda Retailer I've ordered both Cheerwine and Boylans from Beverages Direct. They had some great tasting Birch Beer and Cream Sodas too.
I found the Kosher Cola mentioned. Kosher Cola Funny I live in a small town but we still get it in our supermarkets. My memory was correct about the caps. Keep an eye out next month!
I find Mexican Coke anywhere that Mexican vendors sell their wares, which here includes thrift stores, flea markets and little "shack marts". When I lived in Texas pretty much every store in the area had it, as well as most Mexican restaurants/food stands. BUT, I myself am a Pepsi man. And guess whose bringing back (albeit temporarily) pure cane sugar cola that meets FDA testing standards? http://www.seriouseats.com/2009/02/pepsi-to-use-real-sugar-in-pepsi-throwback-mountain-dew-april.html
I have been flying to Europe for 10+ years, in fact, I am in Germany right now and I have been enjoying the Coke for the past week. In fact, I am drinking a Coke right now. I come back home next week and I am not looking forward to going back to corn syrup.
