A minor but gratifying pick up -- 1941 Ranger Tech that I got pretty cheap because it was listed as a "Pre 1948 Super Speed".
Cancel my Paypal right NOW! I paid the most I have ever paid for a singe razor a couple of minutes ago. It will be the center of my collection though. "limited edition Gillette Aristocrat razor. These razors were made to commemorate the Queen's coronation in 1953 and were presented to board directors for engineering firm Motherwell Bridge." The razor is in BRAND NEW condition and comes in the original presentation case and box. The original spare razor blades and directions for use are included. The razor also comes with its own limited edition number.
I went back to this several times before I "accidentally" clicked BIN and then Confirm. Personally, I blame Achim, Cutting_Edge, Rodd, Thirdeye, Scott, and some other members that I can't think of right now, for this purchase
Well, I met up with the seller of an "Old Type Gillette Straight Razor" from a Craigslist ad. The case said "Old Type" inside, the head was NEW and had a significant amount of brassing, scratches, and wear. The handle had a crack in it near the ball end. Even so, I offered $10 and was told "No" and he promptly got back in his car and left. Not even a counter offer. Later on I stopped by an antique store that had a Valet Auto Strop strop (just the leather strop, nothing else) to pick up for someone here. When I brought it to the counter, I asked the saleslady if she had any razors (I had seen none at all). She pulled down a bin with the following in it (there was also a Slim and Old Type that were another vendor's and not priced so she set them aside): View attachment 8118 The head on this new is fairly worn out, too, but no cracks in the handle... I made out much better.
That's nice!! Have you tried the Gillette Thins yet? One of my favorite blades to use.. very smooth. Enjoy!
