Marlboro Lights, though the smoken days are close to there end for me with the newborn in the mix, smoking outside just sucks!

Love my CUESTA RAY number 9 pyrimid cigars now and again with a nice sippen glass of Knobs creek, think i'll stick to those, and kick the lights.

Forgot to add that one time, in 1987, I actually did walk a mile for a Camel.
I didn't have a car at the time and I was out. The closest store was about a mile away.

you got that right. I like to call him Ed Spendell! The best part is you can get free nicotine patches from the state to quit. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. I'll never understand the politics in this state.

Back on track, you guys convinced my to buy a pack of camels on the way home today. Thanks, i think. :ashamed001

Well, at five dollars a pack my Camels are twice the price they were five years ago. NC also doubled their taxes in that time, and now the Good King Obama has almost doubled the Federal tax. I enjoy smoking, and consider it a hobby, so I guess that's how I afford it.

I have been known to bake my own pris, but I generally roll with the white packets as they're more socially acceptable in a work environment. But a good lös is more than acceptable at home. :D

Though the American brands take a beating by serious snusers, I generally like the original Camel (discontinued) and Spice (ditto). Camel now has Mellow and Frost, which I haven't tried the Mellow but I hate the frost. I don't like the Gran Prix or the Philip Morris brands, either.

Some of my recommendations for someone just getting into Swedish snus are to stick with the portion packets first- your mouth has to get used to the saltiness of the real stuff. The American stuff is like candy compared to the imported. I like the Lucky Strikes (which I recommend to someone trying to give up cigarettes), Göteborgs Rapé, Mocca Pomegranate, and LD mini portion.

If you like Cigars, go for the Romeo y Julieta Senorita Mini or the Montecristo Maxi. If you like the full bodied taste of dark tobacco, like straight Camels or something like Dunhill, try some Tre Ankare (very, very earthy- it's almost like chewing nicotine soil, but in a good way!)

Stay away from Phantom, Catch, Offroad and Knox. Everybody's tastes are different, but I've tried them all and I don't know of anyone that thinks these brands belong anywhere near your mouth.

I recommend Buysnus.com as the ONLY place to order from online. I've never had a problem with getting their stuff through customs, and the shipping is more than reasonable. I ordered a ten can mix of different stuff and the shipping was 3.99, from frigging Norway to North Carolina! Their prices generally beat Northerner and the service from this small, family run business is unmatched. You have my stamp of approval!

And Sturgeon, PM me if you want to try any of what I listed.

I dare you to call snus "weak" with a portion of Thunder or Odin Extra Strong. I've seen experienced Snusers get dizzy and vomit from that stuff. Sterk is another strong brand- I made the mistake of baking a pris of Sterk while going down the road and nearly went off the side of a mountain when my eyes blurred over (minor nicotine OD).

    Northerner.com...

I don't like to badmouth companies unless I've noticed a trend of sticking it to customers. Let me say that I know people that have successfully ordered from them in the past for a good long while then one day their shipment doesn't come. "Held up in customs!" Northerner claims. Well, I've never ordered from another company that constantly has issues getting their snus through customs. Northerner does not guarantee their product will ever reach you, nor do they grant refunds of any kind. The sad thing is that every time I hear of this happening it's always with an order of 100.00 or more.

Short story: my friend in Connecticut ordered a roll of something from Northerner that he couldn't get through Buysnus. A few weeks later, no package, Northerner claims ignorance. He gets a letter in the mail from Customs officials claiming that he owes 70.00 in taxes for ten dollars worth of snus.

When he goes and pays his "fine" he notices the package from Northerner is marked very large "SNUS TOBACCO- TAXABLE TAXABLE". Now, I'm no genius but when you have an international shipment of tobacco the last thing you want to write in bold letters is TOBACCO TAXABLE. From what I've determined all you need to mark on the customs label is simply "Snus". Nine times out of ten, the customs officials have no idea what this crazy Norwegian or Swedish "snuss" stuff is, so they don't care. The ones that do know what it is see that it's probably two or three cans worth, no need to open and weigh it.

FWIW, the packages you get from Buysnus are always marked, somewhat illegibly, plain old "snus". I know of only one shipment out of the twenty or thirty guys that regularly order from them that actually got held up in customs, and even then the tax paid to release it was less than ten dollars. Another guy never got his package, and though Buysnus claims to have "no refund" policy, promptly sent out a second shipment with an extra few cans to make up for the hassle. This was for a first time customer, and that customer was me.

So Northerner may be ok for some, but I don't like the way that they treat American customers. I ordered form them twice in the past and both times the order was wrong, and they never did anything to make it right. Most folks that I know that used them in the past have moved onto Buysnus.

When I was young and I smoked, I used to go to a shop that carried imports and buy Gitanes.

I am a social smoker. Basically I smoke when I drink and thats it. Been doing it for 16 years and havent got addicted. I wont either.....I cant stand the taste when I am sober. But when I am drunk;) I love American Spirit if I have a choice. Usually wind up smoking GF's crap Marlboro Lights. I used to smoke Djarum Lights (cloves) back in college and the Balai Hai? the ones with the surfer guy on them. I do sometimes if extremely stressed but for some reason that urge never grabbed hold of me:) I also do enjoy a good cigar:)

    Don't smoke anymore, thank God.

But when I did it was Nat Sherman Virgina Ovals (discontinued) and Camel.
When I was living in Germany my poison of choice was Drum Gold Hand (English translation) pre-rolled cigarettes. Which is discontinued.

Life's little ironies. There was/is a series of Swedish detective murder mysteries based on the character Martin Beck. His favorite cigarette was discontinued due to it's high nicotine content. So he switched to the second highest nicotine cigarette. Myself? When my favorite brands of cigarettes started to disappear from American and Germany store shelf's I took the hint and gave up the tobacco addiction.

I still have some pipes to sell.

Thanks to the Nav, I got hooked on caffiene and nicotine back in 1986.
Smoked cigs for 10 years and when I could afford em, I really liked those Nat Shermans.
................course, being a lowly E-4 meant I could usually only afford these:

[IMG]..............they were around $8 a carton back then.

SNUS, on the other hand......is E.V.I.L. Sends me back to the ciggie days. Crave it. Gotta have it......................gonna quit it.

As soon as you typed that, a little alarm went off on someone's desktop over in Sweden. Once you get mixed up with the Snus Mafia, they never let you leave...
