Smokers, what's your brand?

Pipes and cigars, and not very often at that. I like Virginia blends in pipe tobacco, and Rocky Patel and Punch in cigars. Montechristos if I'm really treating myself.

That's pretty much me as well.
I'm not a 'smoker', but I do enjoy a good smoke.

In pipes I like either a light aromatic or a medium strength English blend.
The latakia is especially good out on the balcony on a chilly evening.

In cigars, Hoyo de Monterrey is one of our house staples, and I'm also very fond of some of CAO and Perdomo's offerings.

When I was in college I had a nice wood pipe...favorite tobacco was the local stores blend...the store is called Bosses news paper ... so bosses best blend was the smoothest sweetest smoke out of that pipe...

Damn i wonder where that thing is....

Used to tabble in Lucky Strikes, but now just 2-3 cigars/week makes me happy.

Been quit for years, was thinking of getting into RYO. Some really tasty sounding options.
Then the SCHIP tax for RYO went up by over 2000%.
Well, it was a lousy idea anyway...

Who's tried the Nicotrol Inhaler? What have been your experiences?

That's uncommonly cheap. In Boston packs of Marlboros and Parliments sell for $8 per 20.

Now the real question to you, Mr. Frost, is who manufactures the most mentholated cigarette?

    Cigar - and Pipe

I smole a couple cigars a month: i only like to do it when I have time to enjoy it. I'll also smoke a pipe in the winter.

Current favorite is a Gurka Regent Robusto,,,, mmmmmmmm nice and spicy!

It pissed me off. I gave it to my sister, and she claimed she "lost" it. Lame.

It's funny, since I was the one that started this thread, but I've been completely smoke free for two weeks today. My lungs are healing up nicely. :)

Yeah, but notice Jeff said that the two hundred cigarettes come in a bag. I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound very appealing to me. :D

Here in NC we have Cherokee cigarettes, which are also manufactured on Native reserve land, and are exempt from a lot of the taxes most other cigarettes are. You can sometimes find a carton for around ten dollars if you look hard enough. That's not indicative of cigarette prices on the whole, though, as my Camels and Luckies were about 40 dollars a carton before the tax hike, and most common brands like Marlboro and Newport were less than thirty bucks a carton. Everything has pretty much doubled since Obama and Bev Perdue (bit... er, our fair governor) decided people shouldn't smoke.

This, I don't know anymore, but here's a couple of things to consider:

    1. There's a legal limit on how much menthol can go into a cigarette, and it varies by state/region. So a Newport here in NC is quite possibly going to have more menthol than a pack of 'Ports you buy up in Boston.

    2. Most RYO (roll your own) tobacco is exempt from this statue, and Top Menthol tobacco had at one time the highest percentage of menthol you could get.

    3. With the pending FDA regulated take-over of tobacco production here in the US, the proposed new federal limit on menthol in a 100mm cigarette will be five mgs, about half of what is standard in most areas. Also, the nicotine content is slated to likewise drop by half of the current average. This means that you will have to smoke twice as much to catch the same "buzz" as you did in the past.

    4. And if prices, health, regulation, etc weren't enough to get you to try and quit smoking, maybe this will. The FDA plans on removing all flavoring from cigarettes. That's right- you will literally be puffing air. There won't be much of a difference between brands, which is why RJR has announced that they plan on getting out of the cigarette business and are looking more at smokeless tobacco products.

If you haven't already quit, the government has decided that now's the time. Once again, I'm not saying that this is right for everyone, but without real Swedish snus, I would not have been able to quit. I've tried the gum, the patch, the E-cigs; none of it worked. Look into it if you seriously want to quit.

    Frosty Minks, take notes!

I'd no idea a pack of Newports sold in one state may be different than those sold in another. In college, I dabbled in Newport-smoking and distinctly remember a girl bringing back several cartons from the Carolinas after a school break and their being no different than the Massachusetts ones...

Good job on stopping. I hate cigarettes, quit when I quit drinking.

I actually work for a cigarette company and quit smoking about 2 yrs ago. Before that, I smoked Liggett Selects and sssh marborlo lights.
Recently, the federal gov't raised the federal excise tax on cigs. The states will soon follow raising their state excise rates (tax stamps) especially with most of them having deficits in their budgets. Buying on Native American reservations is the cheapest place to buy smokes b/c depending on the state they will either have a lower priced "compact" equivalent of the tax stamp or none at all. Plus if they actually "make" their own they do not pay the FET either.

In the recent Federal Excise Tax increase, there was also a provisions that effectively raises the tax on roll your own tobacco to the same price as a cheap pre-rolled cig. Before the tax was much lower on RYO which is why it was so much cheaper than cigs.

ClubmanRob, did u ever try a brand named "Picayune"? It was a non-filter manufactured by Liggett & Myers and on its last leg was only sold in and around New Orleans. Supposedly, it was the strongest made in the US.

Picayune sounds familiar to me. I remember having a few perique tobacco cigs...was that the name?

that's it i had to look up the word "perique" but i think thats the kind of tobacco that gave this brand its unique taste and smell.

I had no idea that Picayune was still around that recently! I have some ads from the 60's and always wondered what they tasted like.

I see that they WERE made from perique tobacco, which is strong as hell if smoked on its own, unblended. If Picayune was truly 100% Perique tobacco, then I can understand how it could be the worlds strongest. Even strong brands like Gitannes, Gauloise, Camel and Black Death only use a percentage of Perique; just enough for the "bite".

I believe we finally discontinued them in 1999 I think. And they were not 100% perique.

    National Brand Cigars

I was a smoker of cigars back in the early 90's when you could'nt buy a Macanudo for a million bucks they were in such a demand. I always liked maduro and found one brand called National Brand, looks like an old forgotten brand but they were good for the price. I still partake every now and again and will pick one of these up since smoking is so costly here in NJ with triple tax on it.
