Tell / Show us what you like best about where ya live. ======================================== I enjoy my location the best. I live in a beautiful valley 45min from Palm Springs, 1 hr from L.A., 1 hour from beautiful mountain lakes and a little more than an hour away from the ocean. .....and the weather here aint half bad either.
I'll take your murder rate and raise you a nationally recognised heroin problem. Good things in Bicester? Umm, we have a L'Occitane and a Penhaligon's outlet store but that's about it. Regards, Alex
Gilroy is at a crossroads of sorts. It still has that small town feeling and a sense of community with some more modern aspects. It has a heritage and is known throughout the world as "The Garlic Capital of the World." Gee I sound like a blurb from the Visitor's Bureau web site. I like that people make an effort to get to know each other. We have parades and concerts in the park. And with all that, we have more shopping than we know what to do with but, it's centered on the east side of Highway 101 away from the main neighborhoods. We have farmland to the east and south. We have the Santa Cruz Mountains a 2 miles from my house and Santa Cruz, Monterey and Carmel are less than an hour away. It's not all rosy though. The schools need a lot of help. Development is threatening the open spaces and we have a Norteo-Sureo turf problem that the Gilroy police keeps in check for the most part. Gilroy is the gateway to San Jose, the central coast and the central valley. Would I live someplace else? I'm sure I could find someplace nicer but, for me, this is home now and I love it.
umm... Hello ??!! :signs108 My thread...... The BEST thing(s) about where you live.....puh-leeze I know we can all cite the negatives all too well. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Immediate Family and Best friends all live within 30 minutes of us.
Did I mention the fact they we are number 2 for AIDS Baltimore (just up the road) is number one! Oh DC has a drug problem too. :rofl
That's another problem with Bicester. Despite the heroin, gun and knife crime and an alarming increase in the number of rapes this year alone, the price of housing is going through the roof. At one point we were the fastest growing town in Europe and this year it was revealed that with the exception of London and Manchester, Bicester is the most popular place to live in England. I have trouble enough understanding why anyone would want to live in London or Manchester, but Bicester The two homes I own are worth nearly three times what I payed for them, but even if I sold both I still wouldn't be able to buy a bigger home outright. As an aside, I had a school friend who's father was an American airforce man. Over here, the only home they could afford was a two bedroom terrace, when they sold it and moved back to the US they were able to buy a thirty acre ranch in Texas with the same money. Regards, Alex
The best thing about the DC Metro area, Prince George County? Let me think.................Six Flags is 5 miles down the road from me.
I already said, L'Occitane and Penhaligon's, there really is nothing else:rofl EDIT Apologies for the hijack.
The sunsets at the beach, about two miles away. The weather in the winter. Bonita Springs is still a small town and sits right between Naples and Fort Myers (FL). Always like a vacation, except in hurricane season. :whacky098
The nature and silence. Those are the benefits of living in a town with ~2700 fellow souls. Everybody knows each other, folks are very helpful and there's no noise from road traffic, industry etc. It's also good to know where the meat you buy at the butcher's comes from, you know the guys from the bakery, you don't have no noisy big department stores but small, comfy shops where you can still get everything you need (well, except for shaving gear, that is ) Overall, it's just plain great to live in the country, I think I'd die in a big, noisy, stinky, unfriendly, anonymous city
Austin, TX! Housing isn't too bad, especially in the suburbs where I live. There's: Enchante, Nordstroms, L'Occitaine, Heroes & Legacies, Crabtree & Evelyn (two stores and 1 outlet)
Huntsville, Alabama (Madison, actually) Off the top of my head. The good: A highly educated, professional population + the salaries that go along with it = very good schools. Something that has become much more important with the birth of my son. A bright future as far as military and space growth are concerned. Base realaignment and closures are bringing more jobs here and the new space initiatives such as return to the moon have NASA sitting pretty here too. A real change of seasons. Small town atmosphere with big city amenities like symphony, museums, parks, festivals, etc. If a big city is required, Nashville is1 1/2 hours, Birmingham 1 1/2 hours, and Atlanta 3 hours drive. Nice lay to the land. We're in the toenails of the Appalachians and have plenty of lakes plus the Tennessee river running through. Low crime. Affordable housing. The bad: It's still Alabama Rabid college football fans. Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. I wish for more winter some times. Nothing like a good snow. City planning that can't keep up with growth. Traffic increasing rapidly. Lack of non-chain shops and restaurants. No good shaving stuff.
Its a suburban village and I can still walk to everything I need including a train for a 30 minute ride into the Big Apple. Jordan
Uh-Oh ....what've I done ?? Play nice fellas. Please dont make me say something good about the Trojans of USC
