Silicone is the answer to all your shaving woes.

OK, here's the deal.

Problem with shaving #1: The white/opaque shave cream gets in the way of seeing what you're shaving.

Problem with shaving #2: The shave cream/soap tends to dry out before you're done shaving.


It seems to me the solution to this is obvious. Now, I'm a noob, and have only been doing this a few weeks, but sometimes adding a fresh pair of eyes to a hundred-year-old problem can make something seem painfully obvious/elementary.

2009-version Answer: perhaps the solution to our problem is silicone-based sexual lube.

Think of it this way: what if one could come up with a shaving product that provided instant, continuous lubrication, with or without added water, that lasted throughout one's shave, and didn't harm the skin?

Yup, that's right, "Glide/Wet" brand "Platinum" premium body lubricant, silicone-based. Or, similar silicone-based "personal" lubes, brand your choice.

Come on now, you big tough manly blade-shavers. Tell my why this wouldn't be the single, best, most effective, least-irritating, colorless, light-transparent product ever made. Do it. Inquiring minds want to know.

Go ahead and add some vetiver oil to it for smell if it makes you feel better.

Sure, it might be embarassing to have in your medicine cabinet. But really, has there ever in the history of man been a better shaving cream/ointment/soap/whatever?!?!?!?

A noob wants to know.

ps: as a side note, yes, I am aware there are "shine" products for HAIR that are probably more "politically correct", that have this same clear/colourless combination of silicone-based lubricants as their base products. But 1) can you guarantee their sterilization, like one can a "personal lubricant"??? and 2) is that REALLY as much fun as using a "lube" for one's shaving cream?????

I seriously want to use some lube to shave my face. That's honestly my primary drive for making this post. Imagine telling your son - "yeah, boy, this is the stuff I use to shave. And, if you happen to get a woman into your apartment, you can ALSO USE IT FOR......... (fill in the blank)".

too much glide can be a problem. I have a heavy glycerine based gel that I would closely relate to a "personal lube" and it is slick as hell. My dad actually uses it exclusively. With a cartridge it works great but with a DE it seems you really have to bare down really hard. Cushion, glide, moisturizing all are characteristics of soaps and creams that are all important to the shave but too much of any can seem to impede the whole process. Good luck though! I will stick to my ol faithfuls and keep the lube in the night stand

on a side note. Billy jealousy SC contains silicone and is supposed to be a very good product. Its to metrosexual for me though with a name like that.

Wife: Is “shaving in the shower” the new code word for chocking your chicken?

Me: No way babe, I’m really going to shave with this stuff, really!

Me: [thinking to myself] this is that last time I try any new ideas from the Shave Den.

 

Your logic, actually, is wrong in that you are solving problems that don't exist.

Why do you need to see where you're shaving BEFORE you shave? With an opaque cream/soap, you can tell where you've shaved so you don't go over the same spot more than once...with a transparent lube you have to rely on shine.

Also, my lather doesn't dry out before I'm done shaving. Are you taking a very long time to shave? Or is your lather perhaps not hydrated enough?

As for lube--lather is not only for lube, it is also a hydrating, beard softening agent; it offers skin care properties not available in a lube, and it also offers cushioning properties to help protect from excessive nicking.

And you know, part of this whole things is WETSHAVING. The actual fun comes form using the brush and soap to whip up a pleasantly scented, comfortable lather.

But hey, go ahead and slick yourself up. You can get some nice flavors, I hear, and all kinds of numbing/warming/exciting sensations...

 

Eeeewww...Emo shave cream.

 

Too much glide, not enough protection. Gels take care of this problem. Thats why I switched when I was using an M3. Once you have your technique down you...

a) will have enough lather to do 3 passes
b) your lather will be good enough to last 3 passes
c) you'll shave fast enough for it not to dry out
d) you wont need to see, because you'll have your technique down and a thin layer of lather wont make a difference.

 

The bits that this gel is designed to protect are not likely in most circumstances to get cuts and nicks.Silicon and bloodstream might not get on too well.:sick007

 

The best part of shaving for me is in the lathering up of a quality cream or soap and revelling in the sensuousness of the application while enjoying the aromatic scents that I have come to love.

And also quite important to mention, with a properly employed brush technique, the hairs of the beard are lifted while being moistened - which improves the cutting action of the blade. Ya just don't get this when ya rubs yer chicken oil on (or brushless products either for that matter).

I have never felt impaired by the opaqueness of any resulting lather either.

However, not being one to scoff at honestly proffered suggestions, I am going to give yer sex loob a shot, so to speak.

 

I too may consider the "lube". Hey, what the hell, it's worth trying once.:whacky011

I think if you would have commented on the addition of silicone and left out the sex lube part it would had been fine. I add glycerine to lather as an enhancer and glycerine is also used in those special intimate lubes. Let us know how it works though....you know you have to take one for the team now!

 

And Williams shave creams contain silicon. Also some Palmolive creams, I htink from India. I haven't tried them.

 

lube is loaded with glycerin - go ahead and try it and see what you think!

 

You could even use a manly scented one like...grape, or strawberry...
