Kent BK4 Silver Tip and Edwin & Jagger Best Badger

I started out with the COL. Konk Pure Bagder then I purchased the Edwin & Jagger Best Badger and then the Kent BK4 Silver Tip. I like the E&J for soaps. It does a great job; however, for creams and soaps the BK4 is great. When I have a hard time lathering a soap with the BK4, I immediately use the E&J. Both are good brushes. The BK4 is definately more luxurious and softer. I would not pay more than $35 for the E&J and $75 for the BK4. Best Regards.

    Silvertip: QED Savile Row 3124

    Best: Simpson Duke 3

Boar: Van DerHagen from Wal Mart (it's my only Boar brush I've tried)

Also have a Shavemac custom D01 hair, which is a close runner-up to the 3124.

My favorites.......................are the ones I currently own. The others didnt make the cut.
    But seriously, folks:

I break it down like this: there are face latherers, bowl latherers and combo brushes.

Simpsons CH1 in super is my fave for face lathering but, I just got a Rooney Emillion Im learning to use, so check back later.

For bowl lathering, I have a little brush from Superior brushes that is just great. Whips up a lot of lather and gives it away freely, if you know what I mean !

Tweeners include a Rooney Super 3/1 and a custom ShaveMac Flattop..........equally capable in a bowl or on your face.

How's the Emillion? I have one coming soon. I face lather and I love the Rooney 1/2 but I thought I'd go for a little more this time around. I hope it's worth it.

    Well.......to be honest,
    Im not quite sure yet.

It is THE densest brush Ive owned and will not give up the lather very easily.
The faux horn handle is beautiful, but the higher (Heritage) quality badger is lost on me, I guess. Seems to be super quality but just over stuffed.

I think that after it loosens up some (breaks - in) I will really, really love this brush but for now, my custom ShaveMac still rules the roost.

Ive own quite a few brushes and I must say that the Rooney 1/1 Finest is..no pun intended....the finest brush I own. Extremely Dense...I have nothing bad to say about it at all.

I have several badger and boar brushes and I definitely find the Rooney 1/1 Super Badger is by far the best for comfort and lather whether using soap or cremes. It is soft on the skin but not squishy and it is very densely packed and I don't think I have lost any hairs from it since I bought it about 3 months ago.

Do you use soaps or creams? I use soaps. The 1/2 Super is already as dense as I want a brush to be and it works perfectly for soaps. If this is demonstrably denser, then I might find it to be overkill.

The 1/1 has a lot of fans. I have the 2/1 but I haven't used it. Maybe I'll trade my 2/1 for the 1/1.

  13. For my everyday brush, I have Em's place grey badger brush. Its not too floppy like my Col Conk Pure Badger, works very well with soaps or creams. For holding in heat and water it does it pretty well. For 40 dollar brush, I find it excellent.

I got in on the custom Shavemac buy about a month back and that is by far my favorite brush. It's a DO1 21mm knot in the fan shape with an imitation horn handle. Great back bone, soft tips and holds a ton of lather.

    I use both.............
This brush is WAY mo denser than my 3/1, and even denser than my previously - owned super CH1 (which I thought impossible to do)
    See post below.

Wait til you try the CH1 !
