And it doesn't seem to be the face-eating monster that one would imagine it to be. I got a great shave! It's a weekend, so I'm just pampering myself—I did get a BBS shave for the most part. Some areas could do with a touch-up, but I'll leave it for tomorrow. A weeper or two, but those were arrested with an alum block (which caused a fair bit of sting), but no irritation or nicks. I used a Merkur HD and TOBS St. James SC. The smell is decent and the lather is good. I'm looking forward to seeing how long the Feather blade lasts.
I have box that I have yet to try. I think they will be next in the rotation. I did use a 7 AM in my Slim yesterday. It started off great, but skipped a bit near the end. I think the New will be a good start for the 1st Feather run.
Last about a week. But I have to warn you the second shave is a killer. The third and forth are wonderful with a feather. YMMV(BurnWood) as usual.
I shaved with a Feather once....... the next day I ordered a pack of 100! I would never use another blade. For me they last from Saturday to Saturday And they might be the sharperest ever but they very easy to shave with
They arent face eaters, unless you zone out and stop paying attention. I shaved with them and only them in my HD for almost a year. They gave some great BBS shaves. They will take large chunks out of your face if you stop paying attention though.
as usual my experience with feathers is different than yours. First to the third shaves are awesome. I have to change them out after the 3rd as the 4th shave tends to be a mangled wreck... so they last about 3 to 4 days if I skip a shave day on saturday or sunday.
I quit using Feathers for 6 months and finally went back to them. They do not last long at all but still are nice. Trust me though.....dont try to squeeze another shave out of them if they say no. When they are done they are done. I still get 1 or 2 very small weepers with them but its fine. I do find them to be the best blade for slant also.
Aww, Feathers aren't that scary. I think they are one of the most over-hyped shave instruments there are, well second to Merkur razors.
In my experience, the quality of a Feather shave depends very much on the aggressiveness of the razor. I couldn't figure out how to get a comfortable Feather shave out of a Futur, but in a Tech I think they're unbeatable. Someone recommended that I try them in a Tech after I complained about them, so I did. And its a great, comfortable and close shave IMO. I only have 2 DE razors at the moment... a Mergress for everything and a Tech for Feathers. Techs and Feathers are like peanut butter and jelly, IMO. Peanut butter may not go great with everything... but its hard to argue with the kick it gets from some quality jelly.
My Feather went downhill after the third shave, and I discarded it on the fourth. I decided to try some blades I had discounted earlier, and I got great (mostly) shaves from them. I guess it's mostly my technique which has improved. The Shogun blades are still pretty bad though. Oh well...
I really don't care for them on account of their comparatively high-price and fast-blunting. I think you're right about their not being face-eating monsters. Put any blade in an aggressive razor and shave sloppily, and your face won't feel well afterward...
I like Feathers in my Futur they seem to work pretty nice, rarely nick myself with one. Feathers are quite pricey compared to other blades but then when ever I think that I just remember how much cart's are...
Wasn't a big fan of them myself. Less forgiving if you apply any pressure and good for one (yes, I said one) shave. Shave two was painful. Not for me, but lots seem to like them.
Habibi, I found 3 Feather blades in a bag where I keep a bunch of blade packs. I threw them in the trashcan--no way I'll use them again.
