Hey... I went to see Diana Krall in concert last night here in Calgary where she started her world tour.... great concert. Absolutely great. If anyone's thinking of going, do it! http://www.dianakrall.com/
I don't attend concerts of the "big players". Far too expensive, too big a crowd... That said I adore her music and I absolutely LOVE Jazz (as well as Blues, R&B, Boogie...) - I regularly attend concerts of smaller bands in my area
I am with movie maniac but I still like to listen to her music on the radio and sometimes on my MP3 player (not ipod, MP3 player).
Well.... it was my first time at a big venue. And it was wonderful. My wife and I had seats on the second balcony, so it wasn't too expensive, and the acoustics were good. She was amazing. Sure, I would have loved to have sat closer (right beside her on her piano bench would have been nice ), but it was worth every penny.
Hallelujah! Another person who understands that the two are not one and the same. I use a 2gb Sansa Fuze with a microSD expansion slot with an 8gb card in it giving me a 10gb MP3 player. Total cost - $78. Cost of equivalent iPod - $149 for an 8gb iPod Nano. Now that iTunes has loosened up and made all their songs iTunes plus (meaning you can convert them from their proprietary format to MP3 format), I see no point in paying for an overpriced iPod. Sansa players regularly get stellar reviews. I have a MacBook, by the way, so I am not totally opposed to Apple products. On the topic of the lovely Diana Krall - I am an occasional listener. I enjoy jazz, but not always vocal jazz. I much prefer instrumental jazz - Brubeck, Davis, and Coltrane are my favorites. However, I do have a few of Diana Krall's albums. Nice changes from time to time. Never seen her in concert, though. I don't know if I would necessarily pay for such an event, though. Last concert I paid for was the Misfits (new incarnation with Jerry Only, Dez Cadena, and Ramone).
Hallelujah! Another ....oh wait, you already said that. Not to be too off-topic, but the Sansas are about the best mp3 players out there. Only reason I have a Zune is I wanted the massive storage (80GB), and don't like the Ipoo's interface, plus Zune has more features for a better price. back on topic, that name sounds familiar, but I can't quite place her, I'm sure I've heard her voice, though
She is one of the better known contemporary jazz performers. She plays piano and sings - a deep contralto, sultry voice. Her song, "Why Should I Care" was in the Clint Eastwood film "True Crime." She is married to Elvis Costello.
I love jazz performed in a small, smoky club with a good glass of scotch. I've had the pleasure of seeing many big name artists perform in these small clubs and there is no other experience like it in the world. That being said, I really love Diana Krall. She's not bad to look at either.
Could that be the understatement of the year? My wife is a sweetie for taking me to the concert and putting up with me being all swoony over Diana Krall.
saw her as the opening act for Tony Bennett a few years back............at the Hollywood Bowl. Needless to say, a night to remember
She normally has a killer band behind her as well. If you like contemporary female jazz vocals you must check out Cassandra Wilson.
Not a big fan of Diana Krall. Do have a couple of her CDs bought quite a few years ago. Even though I am not a big fan her music sure sounds much better than a lot of the music I hear on some of the SOTD posts. May give it a shot to go see her in July when she comes to Pittsburgh.
I'm not a fan, but she has some of the best recorded CD's I've ever heard- great for testing out your audio system. How the heck did she end up married to Elvis costello?
