Gold Gem Junior with ornate handle TOBS Rose Cream Gem Blade Simpson PJ2 in Best Alum Block Pinaud Clubman Vanilla I like this razor better than the G bar. Angle seemed better.
let me ask a question on SE blades, I'm using the Gem Blue Stars...I noticed this morning after my shave that the blade is showing rust on both sides where the razor clamps down and toward the handle. I've never had one of my DE blades do this. Is this just something that happens with SE blades or is it because the Blue Stars are carbon and not stainless steel?
It's the carbon steel issue. Carbon steel DE blades will rust, too. SE razors trap water under the door. I open up my razor to let it dry during the day. That will avoid the rust issue.
This will be my choice for Saturday. I picked this up a couple of weeks ago. Can you confirm the model year. I apologized for the bad pictures.
Tom that looks a lot like the 1910 I shaved with this morning. WONDERFUL shaving razor. It should be from around that time. There should be a patent date on it that may help.
the same as my 1910... if it is not a 1910 then it is with in a year or two. Dave will come through I am sure and make it official. great razor.
I'm having trouble seeing the tip of the handle. Is it round, or is it flat sided in a pentagonal shape? Do different handles help to date the razors, Cal?
I know the 1908 Superior I just traded had a little short handle... I am not certain about these. I am going by what I have and what I remember being told.. which is not always correct.
Well now that was not a nice shave. But first about yesterdays shave. My 1912 shaved me so well the day before, that I didn't need to shave until 11:30 pm right before going to bed. Swapped blade to my G-Bar and used Clubman S/C and had a very good shave. Not as good as the 1912, but good nonetheless. Came home tonight and put the blade into my 1914 Ever-Ready. Used TOBS Rose just like for my 1912 shave hoping for similar results. Right from the start, it didn't feel good. Some tugging and scraping going on. I made it through WTG, XTG and was halfway through my ATG pass when I had to stop. it was just too painful. So I swapped out the blade for a new one, and night and day difference. Back to smooth shaving, but all I could do at this point was finish my pass and forget about touch ups, my face was too raw. Now I was hoping to get more out of this blade, problem is I don't know if it is the wire on my face that passes for whiskers, or the fact that my daughter had grabbed my blade of and slapped it into the 1912 ornate that I said she could have. I don't know if she somehow ruined the edge or if 4 days out of one of these is going to be it for me.
What type of blade was it? I find that I can't get much past 4 days on any blade, DE or SE....and 4 isn't the nicest shave, so I pretty much keep it at 3....
Most DE blades I can only get three (7 O'Clock black gets 5-6). Most SE blades that I have tried get 2 to 3. Pella can get 4.
Alright then 4 days be it. Matt it was a Gem. Gave a great shave on day three, day four was passable but tonight it just gave up the ghost. :sick013
yeah, sounds about right for me....3 is fine, 4 is passable but I notice a degredation.... I've learned to not even try 5....when I notice the change, that's my last shave with a blade....
Honestly, that is the longest I've tried with an S/E blade or S/E type razor for that fact. I like to switch up my razors so much, that I will dispose of a blade after it sits too long unused, rather than come back to it and try to remember how old it was.
