I know how that is. I hate to not finish a blade but.... I have so many razors to rotate through that sometimes it just has to be.

Agreed, that and they are so cheap as compared to the cartridges that I used until they were more like hair pullers by the time I deep sixed them.

I cover alot of area with a blade, so any that get everything done once is a winner!

Shave #6 of SE week - Rolls Razor.

Technically, I have been SE then for over a week now as I finished up last week with the Rolls as well. This has been a fun week and It was nice using something different each day, but I miss my DE as well.

So is next week going to be "NEW to me" week? I have a few things I haven't used yet and some stuff that I expect in the mail soon.

How about some Open Comb action to open it up a little to more participants?

I could do that as well. I know "new to me" was mentioned last weekend. I don't care either way or if we take a break from theme weeks. Maybe do theme weeks every other week and not back to back to back?

I kinda dig theme weeks. I also dislike them because of the "hey it's xxxxx week, but I don't have xxxxx. Time to spend more money.":happy102

There is that.. .There is also the issue that you get something you want to try but you either have to break out of the theme week or wait who knows how long for the theme weeks to get around to what you want to try.

For example, I have a Stahly that has been sitting here waiting to be used for almost two weeks. If OC is next week, then it will be another week for it to sit and tempt... On the other hand, if we go NEW to me week, I have some OC that really really want to be used....

True, but the opposite end of that is that you start reading the results of people shaving with these things for the first time and it becomes the push you need to try it. This SE stuff, for example. Before this shave week, I had no real desire to own an SE razor. When the stalwarts would start waxing poetic over Gems and Ever-Ready razors, I'd glaze over and go to the next post. But when I started reading from some of the new adopters, that gave me the push to get an SE (Ok, turned out to be six, but they were bought in two different really lots at really really really good prices :D) and give it a shot.

    Hey SE Gang,

Had a great shave yesterday with the same SE I've been using all week. Got a little too close at the base of my neck and have an ingrown or two this morning (ouch). A lovely long handled 1912 Damascene arrived from the Coyote man yesterday, so I'll be having a go with that this afternoon. Will probably switch back to a pal blade rather than trying for a third shave on the Gem I've been using.

I'm wanting to try different blades now. I thought SS Gems were great when I first tried one, but now I'm remembering the Pal blades rather fondly. Pals don't seem as sharp, but they feel smoother to me (if that makes any sense). I'm looking forward to the group buy on Pellas (thanks, Bong - if you're reading this). Might hunt for Gem blue stars as I'm out and about (there aren't a lot of stores around me - it's a small town).

So, thanks Pam for nudging me into a great week of shaves! Thanks everyone else for all of the helpful chatter! It's been an enlightening week. I'm hooked.

We are quite the group of enablers arn't we? :D

Hooked is a good thing. I am also looking foward to that group buy. Will be good to have those Pella's on hand.

Well I went with the Military Gem today. The 1912 with slim plastic handle. These things shave great. I had gotten some TSD Banana SC for the SO and mixed some up. Not much on the scent for shaving... but the Cream is wonderful. JoAnna makes some good stuff. In difference to MsB I will not mention that I used Aqua Velva Ice Blue to finish up with. Great shave midday on a Saturday off. :D

    Late shave do to yardwork.
I used the razor I posted pictures of yesterday
    Omega Boar Brush
    Treet Blade
    Godrej Soap
2 passes. I finished up with some Aqua Velva. It felt good since it is 85 going to 90 today here in NC.

Tomorrow I am going to try the Micromatic I have been fearful of given all the negative posts I've read.

Godrej makes a soap? Interesting....where'd you pick it up, and how do you like it?

I picked it up at a local Indian store. The lather explodes off the puck. Not the best scent but the lather makes up for it. I don't know if the store has any left. I could check.

SE week has been fun. Great to see folks using the razors and discovering a great way to shave. It always amazes me that I can use a vintage shaving tool and it works better than something manufactured yesterday. My final SE shave for the week was this morning. The 1912 is a hard razor to beat, and will always be in the rack. I'm looking forward to the Pella blades to try out in it. I liked the micromatic, but the 1912 is da bomb! and now.....back to our regularly scheduled programming. I've got a couple of "new to me" razors waiting ;)

The MM is not a monster. It just requires good technique and attention to handling. I compare it to driving a old Chevy truck.. or flying older airplanes.

I did the Micromatic this morning. It was not as bad as I thought. I still prefer the 1912.
    Micromatic
    Treet Blade Day 2
    Omega Boar Brush
    Boots Shave Soap
    Alum Block
    Pinaud Clubman

This was fun. Whats next week theme.

I broke out the G bar this morning. For a newer razor it shaves good. WOOHOO. I went with some of the Connaughts Lime that Tracy sent me. That is good cream. Finished with some smells just like brut. Hey at a $1.60 from family dollar it is good stuff.

Not sure about next week. Maybe a week off then back to a theme I heard someone say.. I led the charge on cheap week. Someone else's turn.

I had to skip last nights shave. I really tore up my neck with that old blade, so I gave it a rest.

In my worthless opinion, I say give the theme week a rest. I have some new gear I wanna try out.

Whats say to making the first week of every month a theme week? Maybe we could do a poll during the remainder of the month to help decide the theme.

Again. just my 2 pennies worth.
