Hi,

Shaved first time today with a GEM Se. I'm curious about how many shaves I should expect to get from a single blade. I know this can be a very YMMV, but so far with my DE, i know I can expect 3-5 days pending blade type and number of passes per day. But don't know what to expect from SE blade. I'm using Blue Stars currently, also saw Walgreens had Israeli Personas in SE.

I made 4 days of off Gem blade from CVS. The fifth day turned ugly real fast. Most will say 3-4 is the limit.

Are you sure those Walgreens Personna's were Israeli made? I pretty sure the Gem's and Personna's S/E blades are all made by ASR here in the USA.

I can only get 3 per blade...my biggest gripe with SE shaving...

usually 4.... I agree that the blades are ASR blades not Israeli.. If they are I want to try some.

I am about the same. I can get 2 good shaves out of a carbon (blue) blade; but the 3rd is pushing my luck. On a stainless blade I can get 3 easily but a 4th shave is pushing my luck.

I wonder if the Pella's will be able to last longer?

I hope so..and I am going to try our the ER stropper I have soon as i get the strop cleaned up.

Looking forward to see how the modified valet stropper does as well. Maybe get a few more days on these blades!

+1 on biggest peeve with SE's. Great shave, but I only get 2 shaves off of a Walgreens GEM.

so help me learn here guys... you are talking about using the modified SE blades that will fit in a auto stropper and using that to hopefully resharpen the blade?

Close, Dave posted the other day that he has figured out a way to modify an Autostrop razor so that it will strop a standard S/E blade with the spine still on it.

Ever ready made a stropper - that is what Fuzzy is talking about. Dave mentioned in another post that he found a way to modify the valet autostrop to strop a regular SE blade in the same way. These will strop the blade on a leather strop and will help re-align the edge to keep it usable for a longer period of time. However, it will not sharpen the edge.

Dave said that he has found a way to modify a Auto Strop to strop regular non modified SE blades. Going to make a video.

I get three shaves from the GEM stainless, and two shaves from the various carbon blades (PAL, Treet, Blue Star). I prefer the carbon blades.
