Well shavers it had to happen eventually. This will be the first review I've written up on a product I have never used. I'm not averse to trying it; the opportunity has just never presented itself. That said, Osage Rub is made by the Clubman Jeris line. It contains water, menthol, eucalyptol, alcohol and fragrances. I'm not seeing glycerin or aloe included so it may lack in the moisturizing category. Everything you read and everyone you hear talks about it being brisk, chilly and tingly all over. Sounds nice. It looks like it's meant to be a face, head and body splash. The stuff is super cheap at around $5 for a 14 oz bottle. I've got nothing more to add. Those that have used it can chime in regarding scent, soothing, moisturizing properties and so on. The floor is open.

So many times I try to bring in for me Osage Rub, and I cannot. :(

It is definitely chilling. I usually use it after a soap such as Mama Bear's Awakenings or C.O. Bigelow Cream. I like the mentholated feel. However, as noted, it doesn't have moisturizing ingredients so I am waiting until summer to go back to enjoying its cooling effects.

It sounds like it would be close to Alcolado Glacial, which is the most strongly mentholated splash I ever saw in all my life.

I was sent a large sample bottle by a kind soul and wow I love it. Thank you for putting it out there Sheppy.

The first time I put it on I thought I felt nothing. then I realized it was because my face was frozen.
Refreshing and a joy to use. I still have that sample bottle, which contained about 4 ounces. Very generous sample.

Edit. Oh scent, purely menthol. No moisturizing, its a splash. Soothing, yep.

So much awesome in the green bottle. I use it nightly as a face splash before turning in for the night. Love it!

Ah, the same as Alcolado Glacial. One hand full of this stuff on your face, you can almost see your breath! :D Shep, I beg from you, please to not be mad I put in this photo. :)

Close? It grabs Alcolado Glacial by the neck and shoves it's face into the dirt. This is the most heavy menthol-kick you can get in an aftershave splash. (You would maybe be surprised to learn, however, that a 7 oz. bottle of Aqua Velva contains more "true" menthol than a 14 oz bottle of Osage Rub.)

Osage Rub has been around since the early 1900's, when it was introduced as a hair tonic. As usual per barbershop hair tonics, barbers began using it as an aftershave. It's other advertised uses include ointment, massage oil, mouthwash and as a remedy for sunburn.

Having said that, it was never the original intent of the inventor of Osage Rub to be used as an aftershave. This is why it lacks a lot in the way of moisturizing agents. Some of the other ingredients that are in Osage Rub that aren't listed on the label include: Eugenol (menthol-like analgesic), diopropylene glycol-solubized alpha-isomethyl inonone (fragrance/carrier/moisturizer), and Butylphenyl Methylpropional (fragrance oil with slight moisturizing properties). So, Osage Rub does have trace amounts of moisturizing agents that make it usable as an aftershave.

I have used it in the past as an aftershave, but I mainly use it as a hair tonic during the summer months. Black hair and North Carolina sun can be one hell of a catalyst for HHS (hot head syndrome) and this cools me down quite well. I haven't tried it as a mouthwash yet, though. :D

As an aftershave, I'm not crazy about the scent, and I don't personally care for that heavy of a menthol kick. I've very rarely had a shave that was so degrading I needed to numb my face to weather the after-effects, but I suppose this could be a form of razor burn first-aid to those that suffer from bad shaves.

But, I can get it for 4.00 a bottle, so that pretty much means I have a steady supply on-hand. I find it's more effective for bug bite treatment, and the heavy dose of citronella means it doubles as a pretty effective mosquito keep-away. If it's 100 degrees outside and I'm cutting the grass or working on the car, you can pretty much figure I have my Osage Rub sitting on the porch close at hand. ;)

I am surprised, because Alcolado Glacial is the type of menthol splash that a few guys I know cannot support, because of the powerful menthol in it. Not only that, it becomes cold as soon as you make it contact your skin, and the cold feeling takes a long time to go down. The scent is pure menthol, nothing else at all, really. It has no moisturizing effect that I know of, it was formulated in the Caraibes, I believe in Barbados, or perhaps Trinidad & Tobago to be used as a face and body freshener in the hot weather there. It also is supposed to be good for insect bites, and to stop stress headaches, and fatigue.

Osage Rub has more scent than the Glacial, but the chill effect is more pronounced than Alcolado. There's people on other forums that have been surprised by the way that Osage Rub can get under your ring or watchband when you apply it. That night, twelve hours later, your skin will still be numb under your ring or watch where the Osage Rub has been sitting all day, and it sometimes takes several hours for the feeling to come back in your skin.

I absolutely love this stuff. The scent is old school-slightly powdery? but doesnt overwhelm. Of course the menthol bomb is very nice especially in the summer time but I enjoy it year round. I did have a vintage bottle from the 50's and the formula seem to be a bit different and smelled a tad different. Alabamalawyer has the cool bottle and its contents now:)

Shep....let us know and you know we will hook you up;)

I never tried the Osage Rub. I cannot be objective, or to make any comment, but I know something about the Alcolado Glacial. Many storeowners from the Caraibes, who have grocery stores sell it. I have 3 big bottles all ready for use in summer, and for my trip in July to Greece, where it will be extremely hot.

Osage Rub is great. I use it quite often in the summer. The scent is meh, not good not bad, just meh. The cooling sensation of this stuff is the best I have tried yet. Even makes your fingers tingle. Dirt cheap so pick some up and use it.

Thanks for chiming in gents. You've really helped others get a feel for this splash. It sounds like a wonderful niche product. And don't worry about adding pics Jeff. How could I get upset about a pic w/ a penguin in it?!? Penguins rock! :D

EDIT: Also, somebody needs to man up and give it a whirl as a mouthwash. I really want to hear that review!

Oh Yeah! This stuff is great. It really took me by surprise the first time I tried it. I had read that it was cooling, but I didn't think it would be that powerful. Every time I use it, it always makes my eyes start to water from the fumes drifting up into the eyes. First it has the alcohol sting, them the eyes start watering and you feel little warmth, then BAM! It feels like you shoved your face into a deep freeze. Lasts for quite a while too. The scent? Eh, take it or leave it, but that ain't why I use it.

My 16 year old son came in the room as I was writing this, and I asked him to describe it since he used it once, one word from him, FREEZING!.

I had that happen just the other day with Alt Innsbruck.

Where can you find this stuff? I think I heard someone mention Sally's Beauty once?

I looked there but they didn't carry it at my local store, although they did carry other Jeri's items. Thats where my Masters Bay Rum came from.

I ordered mine through Ry's Barber Supplies, to make it worthwhile for the shipping, I ordered 2 bottles. :D

I agree the smell is just meh and fades quickly anyhow not bad but nothing really noticeably good either, Osage rub after a Proraso shave makes for a most excellent cooling effect and if your a head shaver you got to try it on the dome too wow. I tend to use it much more often in the summer then the winter.
