25 May, Monday Merkur 38C w/ Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless Rooney 3/1 "Super" GFT Almond SC GFT Eucris EDT Start of my "GFT Week"; didn't go too well. The Almond SC lathered nicely, smelt great, but made my face red once the shave was done. Allergy, perhaps (I hope not!); will try again on a weekend.
MONDAY. XXV MAY MMIX. Click w/ Sputnik. l'Occitane SS C&E Best-Mixed. Cool Blue Splash & Cordovan Spray. ... l'Occitane's shaving soap - why do people specify that it's Cade when the company only offers one soap? - is among my favorites in spite of its non-existent scent. And now I hear refills are only $10?! Love Banana Republic's overlooked Cordovan EdT - makes the ladies go :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 :shocked029 ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwDf2DCX_1A

Monday May 25 Preshave: GFT Sandalwood Skinfood Soap: Mitchells' Wool Fat Brush: GFT Best Badger Razor: Merkur HD Blade: Astra Superior (Day 3) Aftershave: T&H Trafalgar Aftershave Balm Cologne: Y&H Trafalgar Revisited the HD now that my technique is getting good and it shaved really nicely. Was able to spend time touching up the problem areas of my face without the fear of shedding blood and the result was as close to BBS as I've come so far. I've found that the trick with a DE is to grip the handle of the razor lightly, just enough so I don't drop it, this ensures that I'm putting no pressure at all and letting the weight of the head push against my face. Since I've been doing this I rarely get a nick at all. I'm enjoying wetshaving more and more with each shave, happy days! Pete

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep: Shavemac 22mm silvertip 1919 Bulldog/Iridium MWF Lucky Tiger AS Penhaligons 'LP #9' EdT Another first time for me razor........yep, it's another open comb type(I've used a bunch in the past). I'd read a bit regarding how these things shave, and the reviews were right. That is one aggressive puppy, and it took some concentration using this thing. I was VERY aware of the blade....I could feel the sharp edge resting on my face with no protection against damage(typical for an open comb). Yeah, the margin for error was about zero, and I adjusted my technique in accordance. This meant very short passes, with NO pressure(that would be bad.........heh). Anyway, I ended up with an extremely close shave, just as I tend to get with any open comb type. My face feels fine afterwards, and was left with one tiny weeper on my chin that went away in a few minutes. Man, this would be a great razor for some of you guys, but it's tough for me to use this very often. Yeah, I know a change of blades or needing to adjust the angle of attack better might very well improve things comfort wise, but I'm not gonna spend the effort screwing with it right now....heh. I know all about these little rabbit holes....from personal experience. Anyway, a wonderfully close, yet far from comfortable shave this morning, Martin

'51 Black Tip w/ Kai blade (1) Omega boar Tryphon Mentolo ss Thayers Original WH w/ aloe Floid Vigoroso as GHT Spanish Leather cologne I wanted to try the Kai on a fairly non-aggressive razor and found the combination of the blade and the Black Tip to work fine after a day off from shaving...the Mentolo makes a wonderfully cooling and smooth lather and the Floid is a good follow-up.
