Tubed non-lathering shave creams such as Edge, Barbasol have given me great results as:

    - gentle facial cleanser for dry skin in winter

    - pre-shave in the shower

    - moisturizer

Have you had similar experiences ?

    Plus, plus.........

For those who can get good shaves from that kind of cream (I know some don't like tubed non lathering creams), it's the perfect light travel kit: wash-shave-balm in 1 tube.

    How convenient, eh?

I bought some Burts Bee's Shave Cream, when I first started wetshaving thinking that it would lather. I was wrong, I did however find that whenmixed with my scentless KMF cream I get a nice finshed lather that has a great scent!!

I'm using up my stock of canned shave cream as a pre-lather now. It works just fine. I have one tube of brushless cream and it stays in the travel bag. I don't like to carry a brush with me when I go places- well, actually, I hadn't found a good travel brush with a case yet...

I didn't even know Edge and Barbasol came in tubed form. It's been years since I really took a hard look in the shaving aisle however.

    Dr Sheffield's

A sleeper brand, not well packaged or branded, but fits the bill in this thread. Most seem to be high end cosmetic counter items in this arena. Barbasol website states any Walgreens for theirs, but so far have not found any to sample.

Edge makes a tubed shave cream as part of their "Edge Infused" line. I found it at Target for about $2.50.

Other than a pleasant minty smell, it has absolutely no other merits. It doesn't lather, and feels like you are spreading hand lotion on your face. ICK!!

I tired to use it as a pre-shave once, and then tossed it in the garbage. :sick007

I have a can of "Edge Infused" which I was wondering what to do with. It's not good enough to suffer through two months worth of shaves, so I won't be using it as shaving cream.

It works perfectly fine as a pre-shave prep; thanks for the suggestion. :D

I think these are great for shaving. Sometimes a nice variety.

I'm using some ALBA brushless cream as a pre shave, I put it on just before I leave the shower, and clean it off with a hot wet cloth just before appling my lather, this morning, I actually forgot to clean it off before I applied lather, and it, combined with the lather gave me a very slick first pass.

Hmm, I previously thought of brushless cream as really good for nothing since they do not lather. Might be an excellent pre-shave. What are the advantages of using one of these as a pre-shave? Does it make your visage easier to shave?

Most of them contain much fat. So your visage gets easier to shave. Besides this most of them are good moisturizers.

How are the cheaper brands such as Barbasol as a pre-shave? Hmm, might try this. Do I need the higher end, quality things for this matter?

    Brushless Creams--King Of Shaves

Hey guys. I have had great results with the King Of Shaves line of brushless gels. They're clear, but I use a brush with them, so they turn more creamy on my face when I use this method. KOS gels are chock full of good stuff....tea tree oil, aloe, vitamin d, etc etc. Don't knock it until you try it. Mike, Hoboken

I don't know Barbasol. I know Boots (England) which I think is quite poor and I know LEA (Spain) which is great.
i would be interested in American Palmolive.

Barbasol in a tube is their original product, or fairly close to it, dating back to around 1920. The scent was changed a couple of years ago; until then it had been the same since I first used it in the 1970s. It is a heavy, very moisturizing cream (competitors in the 1930s, namely Mennen, derided it as a grease) with a lot of mineral oil. I find it great in cold weather when my skin gets chapped, or if I'm sunburned -- it's extremely soothing, with lanolin -- but never thought of trying it as a pre-shave. I suppose you could. It isn't expensive at all. It works best with DE blades as it tends to clog multi-blade cartridges. It's so thick you have to use very hot water to rinse it off the razor.

I don't think many people who are used to lather would like it, but that doesn't mean its a poor product, just a different breed.

The only non lathering cream I like it Cremo Cream which I do use for travel as it eliminates the need for a brush, it is extremely slick and I got both the new and old scent but prefer the old scent more.

I was gifted a tub of Herban Cowboy non lathering cream, it is not an item I will try again though.

My favorite non-lathering brushless cream is JASON. I never use it by itself though. I use it to blend with KMF or TOM. It adds a superior level of slickness that I absolutely love!

just used some of this today with my brush and bowl. I put in a dime worth in and i couldn't get the right lather, just dissolved on my face. tried again less water did same thing. then I put a quarter size with hardly any water, and lathered it on my face applying enough water to get the thing going.

Though it's "unscented" it does have a smell to it. It's not great smelling but it's not as bad as a dog fart. you can't smell it at all after you're done. it's kinda expensive, i think i had to use way to much, but it was the best agtg shave i've gotten so far. about 10 shaves under my belt.

I'll try to use less tomorrow :)
