I've tried sticking to one razor/one brush for a week. Actually I've been using a Futur for something like two weeks straight now. Soaps, creams, perfumes, well, that's a lot harder.
I have been using the same setup for 2-1/2 weeks now because I am traveling. The only change I made was blades. Because I am using one of my favorite razors (1940's Gillette Tech), brush (unknown brand silver tip badger), and soap (Pre de Provence) I am getting a great shave each morning. However, I am looking forward to the variety of razors, blades, brushes, soaps, and creams I have at home. I shave in the morning so the night before I set up my shaving gear. When I get up in the morning a new setup awaits. I usually stick with one razor for a week before switching but soaps and creams are usually changed daily. Whatever we're happy with is what works.
Ive been using the same razor /blade combination for the past four days (T1 Superspeed with a Red Personna) and changing up the soaps and creams. I seem to really like this particular combination, but generally I like using a variety of razors and will likely change once I've used up this blade. Nathan
One more day of fidelity! It's not so hard, really it's not (keep telling myself this). Truthfully, the lather is getting better and the shave easier due to increased familiarity with the instruments involved.
One more day of the same setup. Got a terrific lather and a great shave. Getting more intimate with the same equipment seems to be paying off.
Semper Fidelis!!!I tried to do the same today(use the same gear than yesterday)but I couldnt...SE razors were calling me....Ill see If I can,at least, keep the same razor for more than 3 days..that would be my first step.
I'm giving the idea a mini-shot. For the life of the blade, I will not change any part of the shave. It will be Futur/Feather/C.O. Bigelow/Tweezerman/Aqua Velva until the Feather blade needs replacing. If I can't make it through four days (estimating), then I may need to seek professional help to counter this addiction.
When I awoke this morning, I had to be like the little engine that could and tell myself, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can to pick up the same setup again. Just have not limited myself to one setup for so long. Like 5 days is so long. Anyway, the results were another fine shave with no problems. Everything worked well together and a DFS was the result. What more can you ask for?
I keep the same razor/blade set up for the life of the blade, however I do change around my stick/cream/AS combo daily...
Heh. I remember hearing "if your' new stick to the exact same setup for at least a month." It sounds like I'm not really doing so badly to stick with the same razor ( okay I only have one, but I leave the adjustment at the same setting... msotly), brush, and blade for 3-4 days at a time. I change soaps/cremes/etc daily, but that's because I'm havign a much harder tiem with my lather than my blade. I attribute that in no small part to my super hard water.
Today is the end of the one setup use. I need menthol!! It's blazing hot down here in SE Lousiana all ready with temps in the mid 90's. Anyway, what did I learn?? That using the same setup allows you to become very familiar with the items involved and also allows you to get the best out of them. We all know that (or should). So I'll go over the set up and comment. Parker 91r razor: Many think it's a face shredder. I find it to be a great shaver. It's heavy and long handled which I like. It "definetely" needs a light touch but will reward you with a great shave with no irritation if used properly. Wilkinson (India) blades: Better than average but not top tier for me. A little harsh in the Parker razor but did provide DFS and BBS shaves. Probably not the right blade for the Parker razor but should work better in a different razor. Palmolive Classica SC: Pretty good stuff, nice clean scent. Easily makes a great lather. For a drugstore type cream, it's right up there with the leaders. Rooney 3/1 Coral Special brush: Incredibly soft, nice in the hand and beautiful to look at. It is new so still breaking in. Better lathers as the week went on and started to give up that lather easier. Could be the only brush a person needed but what fun is that? Anherbl Balm: Very soothing, nice menthol kick, everybody should have some. Pinaud Clubman: One of my favorite aftershaves. Smells great and my wife loves it. 'Nuff said there. Bottom line: Using the same setup will get you a great shave as you continue to become more intimate with the items involved. But it's nice to have options.
Poppi, you have done great!Ill see if in the future I can be faithful for at least a week like you to the same gear. I will follow Matt advice if you have hard water.Bottle water is in most of the cases the answer to let your creams and soaps shine.
I keep reading this post and all I can think is… If you can be with one person for more than a week, than you should be able to use the same stuff to shave with for a week. If you want to do something than you can do it, but if not the person your with should just get up and go now with there still being a few days left for them.
