Okay, you ladies win, now let's get this thread back on track. (Um, Pam, do you? :happy102) I know nothing about using a straight but do most people go through what Gelf Lover seems to be suffering? While apprehensive the first time I used a DE, I had no trouble with it at all. I take it that there is way more of a learning curve with a straight. I've also seen some people swear they get the most incredible shave with a straight while others claim to get just as good a shave with a DE. Is it a case of YMMV or rather trying to compare apples to oranges?
The learning curve is longer with a straight. Need to pay more attention to your driving with a straight. As for a better shave ...... IRMD (Idividual Results May Differ)
Learning to use a straight can be a little more tricky than the DE. Stropping the blade wrong can mess up the edge, and thus mess up the shave. But overall I think it's a YMMV thing. Some folks have the easiest time learning to use the straight, and some run into issues. But the same can be said about learning to use the DE. I'd say the most difficult part of the straight is learning maintenance. And why some people don't stick with it. I know that's why I didn't. hmmm.......not sure I'm answering anything with this post.
