My Omega 10077 is January-old and to my knowledge hasn't lost a single hair. Amazingly robust, it outperforms my C&E badgers, not bad - but they shed with frequency.
ok this is the review for the brush: http://www.theshaveden.com/forum/showthread.php?p=250278#post250278
What about Omega boars?? I am sure this Semogue is a fine brush, but I seriously doubt it outperforms an Omega boar. Can someone who has used both comment and compare the two brands?
Zach is the man for that.I bet he could give you his opinion about both. But nobody here is talking bout Semogue outperforming Omega(not me a least).I bet that Omega is a fine brush.
I got a 1520 as a gift from a friend as well. It arrived yesterday and I shaved with it today for the first time. I loaded it up with water and for my first pass I used the woolfat, which is my benchmark soap for new brushes. Now this puck has seen a lot of use and there's a big hole in the middle where I can see the bottom of the container, and likely this is part of the reason why I got such a bad lather; it was way too wet, not enough soap, and it disappeared on my face as I'd often read but never seen myself before today. So, I will reshape this puck or just place it on top of another one or something. Still, though, the other reason is that this brush held a lot more water than I thought it would, given its size; a surprising amount that also damaged the lather. The characteristics of this brush are very different from other boar, and that's wonderful to see, as I love new things. So, as I get to learn it I'm sure I will appreciate its tendencies; for example, this looks to be a fantastic shave stick boar, though I have not tried it as such yet. The second pass, with the Arko, I let the excess foam drip out and I did get an excellent lather and a great scrub. Tomorrow I try it with the La Toja soap stick, and see what happens. First impression: Fascinating!
Thanks Zach for your impressions about it.I shaved with mine today and got an exellent lather from a glycerin based soap.I really love this little guy and for shavesticks and facelathering is just perfect! Hope to see your review soon with mine.
I tried it with a La Toja stick today, and it was very impressive. Despite its small size I was easily able to produce three magnificent passes worth of lather. It's very scrubby and still skritchy, but, like all the other Semogue products, it's proving itself to be a fantastic tool.
I shaved with mine again.I knew that you was gonna use La Toja so I used Boots shavestick instead. The brush made lather for 7 passes easily(however I only needed 4) and the tips are getting softer and softer while the backbone is still pretty firm. The best of the 3 Semogues boar brushes for facelathering?...well,I think so.
A lot of time has passed, and a couple things have happened; first is that my love of this scrubby little brush really has grown; it's a great tool; short loft and lots of scrub, yet a bizarre ability to hold lots more water than it should, for any boar, much less a small boar. Second, is that you can get one too, Leon has them in stock, cheap. I assume this is news here, I did a quick scan and did not see anything about this. If you look at the measurements, though, they can't be accurate; this one is at least 1/4" shorter in loft than the 1305; I'll break out the calipers tonight. Thanks Murray!
Most of us go to http://www.vintagescent.com. Leon, who operates Vintage Scent, is a member here and is very reputable. I purchased both of my Semogues through him (1305 and 2000) and was very pleased with the service both times.
Hi Zach, gents, I post the news in my Vendor Corner. Since besides being a member, I'm a vendor, I don't post in the other sub-forums whenever I have a new brush for sale because that would go against the forum policies. Besides that I also send a newsletter that anyone can subscribe in my website for those who don't go regularly to the forums or aren't forum members.
I finally got around to breaking out the calipers; and the results are hard to interpret. The shape of the 1305 is a fan and the majority of the tips are very close to the top of the tallest bristle; with its bulb shape, however, there are few bristles at the tallest point and the majority are in the middle between the tallest and the shortest; so, technically, the tallest bristles on the 1305 are 54/55mm and the tallest on the 1520 are actually at 49/50mm. The shortest on the 1305 are at 45mm and the shortest on the 1520 are at 36mm; the optical illusion when comparing the 2 brushes therefore cause one to think that the 1520 is smaller than it really is. Because of the differences in the shapes of the heads, therefore, loft is not an apples to apples comparison.
