Well I used the MM open comb for the week and went back to the damaskeene 1912 today. What can I say, the shave was so much easier with the 1912. I didn't mind the clog pruf MM I tried a few weeks ago as it was something different to try and I think I got along better with that than I did with the open comb MM. So the open comb MM is not going to used regularly by me any time soon. I liked the heavier handle and aggressiveness, but the 1912 is more nimble and great at j-hooking and blade buffing anyway due to it's lightness of touch.
I shaved today for the first time with a GEM. I bought it off the bay. Its advertised as a MM. Its nice and shiny and has a circled "G" on the handle. The handle slopes off at the end. The shave was pretty nice. Not bbs, but I was not going for it. Just trying not to slice my face open. Anyway I found the experience rather enjoyable. Blade angle was not a problem, its pretty intuitive. No blood(which is always good) and irritation free. I used a gem personna blade from CVS. My Gillettes may soon be on the market.
Second shave with the GEM. Irish Moose ss, CVS GEM blade (2), 1305 Semagaga brush for a 2 pass with buffing = bbs shave. No irritation which is undeserved since I do not take my time and I hit the tough spots with a vengeance. Oh, and I know about my misspelling some of the products. Just some casual humor.
The Featherweight is a truly underrated razor. It's basically a G-Bar in slightly different dress and I think the G-Bar is where GEM and Ever Ready knocked it out of the park. I like all of the GEMS but confine myself to the G-Bar and its derivatives. SE razors are also all I shave with now.
I have a G-bar, a Micromatic and a Contour and for me the Contour is the only one I can shave with... it's beautiful and shaves well enough for me to forget DE's but the other Gems tear me up.
Yes Sir, mine is in the same condition flawless. 11.00 shipped it cost me. I take it that is a G bar?
Thanks. It was advertised as a Micromatic, but I spotted the circle g on the handle and remembered reading the a G-bar had that. So I guess I lucked out. Compared to the Gillette, there is very little resource material on the web dealing with GEM razors.
I just bought a mm clog proof for three dollars from the antique store last week. yesterday I decided to try it out picked up some blade at cvs and boom, instant convert, it delivered a very nice shave not all the way bbs, because I didn't want to push it, but my cheeks and jawline are very smooth I am definitely going to explore this razor more.
