I am sooooo scared now to use my Grandpa's Valet Autostrop razor. I recently had cataract surgery. I still want to shave Grandpa style on Friday, but what to use?
Hiya, I actually participated in last week's geezer shave. Heh, I don't believe I posted it though. Anyway, it gives me an excuse to use some stuff I wouldn't have tried.......like some vintage canned goop(really). So yeah, consider me a player........ Martin
Truth be told, most of my shaves would qualify for Grandpa Shave Friday. Occassionally, I'll use some fancy (TSD) soap or a modern cologne but generally my shaving gear is pretty vintage. I got the idea that at least one day a week (Friday) it might be nice to get back to old stuff and shave like our Grandpas did. Ironically, I never met either of my Grandpas (both had died before I was born) so it's a bit of a stretch of the imagination for me. My grandson on the other hand will have lots of memories of shaving w/grandpa. He's four and his weapon of choice is a (bladeless) 1912 Gem Jr. He digs the soap and brush and a splash of WH and Aqua Velva Classic afterwards.
The grandpa shave was a real brainchild. I used to love playing with my grandfather's razors (minus the blade of course) in the early 1970's.
I'm in for Friday! Now I have to figure out the lineup--will probably use a 1963 Gillette Slim as the designated whisker whacker.
Osage Rub I am thinking of using Osage Rub as my aftershave for the grandpa's shave but am not sure if it is eligible. Has Osage Rub been around for at least 40 years?
I'm in,.....I have found the DE razors and brushes of my grandpa .... and I think that La Toja and Floïd can be their partners tomorrow
Nothing impressive, an open comb, very simple, and a travel imitation of gillette tech made in Spain for the army
Grandpa's shave Friday Metal handle boar brush Noname alu open comb short handle + Gillette platinum Myrsol emulsion as preshave La Toja Shavestick Floïd vigoroso ASL WOW! What a shaver this little razor!!!! smooth but efficient, BBS in 3 passes, and it's a pleasure the menthol of myrsol and the old barbershop scent of Floïd for finish....thanks for the idea 1OldGi, :1respect
