cheapest new razor you'd use daily

We see many guys trying to try wet shaving on a tight budget. Given the economy, we're seeing more now than in the past. In order to help all these guys out, I'd like to ask:

What is the cheapest newly manufactured razor you feel is worthy of a being a daily shaver?

I don't personally own a newly manufactured razor, but plan to get a Weishi soon. Do you find Weishi's any good? Ming-Shi? Lord Tech? Lord Click? Let's hear your opinion.

For me, the Lord Razor works fine. It's not my favorite, but if it was all I had it would work. I guess mine is the Tech, because it isn't plastic like the Click. It was a whole $7 or so.

+1. The all aluminum Tech knockoff made by Lord is quite good, although light. I got mine as one of a set of razors- so I don't know how much they sell for but I think it's less than $10.

I dont use it daily but the Wilkinson DE is a great razor.I always get amazed of how well performs but I like shorter handles.

I'm not familiar with the current make of Wilkinson. Where can you buy one?

Here in Spain you can buy it locally but I also have found it in some ebay shops(sellers) Around 5 euros its is normal price.

    Personal opinion:

I don't think the cost of the razor has anything to do with it. I would chose a cheaper Lord over a clasic Super speed if Iwas certain that the Lord shaved as well as the Super Speed.

    Of couse that's my opinion.

I have been using an inexpensive Gillette Sterling for a while (costs $5 at TSD store - http://www.theshaveden.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=154) and I don't really have any complaints save for its weight.

I plan to continue using it in rotation with my soon to be acquired Parker 91R by replacing its plastic handle with the Parker's metal handle.

Gillette Sterling head on a Parker
    Hey that's my copyright

Thats what I use for a Travel Razor and the Sterling head is a "Tech" design and makes an ultrasmooth shaver and coupled with a Parker head its awesomeness shines out :D

Yes, though I think a $5 razor head and a $22 razor handle is really a $27 razor. Might as well go for a Merkur at that price. Plus, what do you do with a Sterling handle with a Parker head?

I had forgot about the Sterling to be honest. How agressive is it?

Only "cheap" razor I have is a feather portable. It is a nice little razor and I keep it in my travel kit. For every now and then shaves it is fine. But I have large hands and that is a tiny handle. I do have the bug to try the Sterling and the Lord Tech. I have always been interested in some of the Parkers as well.. but those don't fall in cheap end anymore...

I know you said newly manufactured razor but I've got $4 Gems that will shave circles around any $50 Merkur out there. BTW, the upcoming issue of ATG magazine will contain an article about starting out on a budget. I know the guy that wrote that article really well, I even wear his hats and shoes every day. In fact, were such good buds, he often looks at me from the other side of the mirror whilst I'm shaving :D

Not an aggressive razor, the Sterling is quite gentle and smooth. If you have a really heavy beard then you may not like it but if you don't, then pair it up with a good sharp blade and it does the job wonderfully.

You can buy the Wilkinson classic in pharmacies here in the UK, like Boots.
I believe it is the same as the Treet razor.

I started out with a Weishi and it was a great way to begin wet shaving with a DE.

The Sterling head is a tech head by design and compared to a Merkur HD it is a very gentle shaver. It is more like the SS I have...

And the Parker handles yoy are referring to and the ones I picked up are not exacly 22$ when I picked them up. Ummm.... Let me not share the price :D

I have a Lord Smart razor that I use often. Has a long plastic handle but the rest is nice and it shaves very well.

We have 2 of the Weishi's in the house for my sons, I have used them, and paired with a good blade they are fine shavers. They don't get used a whole lot now, since I bought them those to use my collection has grown quiet a bit and they are allowed to use anything in it, so the Weishi's don't see much action.

Now I know this will be blasphemy, but I have used the Dorco PL-510 I purchased from the TSD store, and I got great shaves with it. I bought it after another forum member used it for "Shaving on the Cheap Week" and posted a review about it. If someone was truly on a budget, and was trying to make every penny count, then the PL-510 would be a fine choice at the low price point.

I'm quite happy with metallic Lord razor (aluminium handle), but I could not stand the plastic Wilkinson/Treet.
Altogether, IMO the Lord is not much worse than a Merkur 33c. Just a bit worse...

I'm more of a vintage guy, but I've got a TTO Ming Shi that is quite acceptable (it was a gift so I don't know the price, but I am reliably informed that it was negligible) It's very mild. I also have a three piece Parker 90R modelled on the Gillette Improved that is insanely aggressive, and really nice to shave with once you get the hang of it. That one cost me $7.50 which I would venture to guess is less than the Ming Shi.
