I'm looking for user friendly design ideas from you. The quest for the perfect safety razor will obviously be different for each of us but some common characteristics should be found in this thread. Share your ideas ... If you could design your perfect safety razor what would it be like ? Personally I like a semi aggressive long handle razor with a great grip and hefty solid feel , my iKon extended tech is pretty much born from this idea.
Your initial razor looks pretty good right off the bat. However, I prefer a shorter handle. (But retain the as much heft as possible.)
I've never had the fat tech style handle but it looks very grippy. And I prefer a thicker handle (Fat Boy > Slim). I'd steer clear of smooth finishes like the Futur. Aesthetically, I like the bit of bulge at the end of the Barberpole Merkur or my Mergress, but that's a minor thing to me. A thickish, non-slip grip with heft is my preference. Oh, and nickel plating would be cool.
Hi Greg, Looking at my iKon stainless with the great tech handle I was thinking what would it take to make it more user friendly. I guess I would like to see it as a TTO model. IMHO that would make this razor untouchable. Jerry
Would you prefer a nickel plating over a natural stainless steel finish that will never need to be replated ?
I haven't had the opportunity to try the Ikon head yet; however, it sounds great. I like my razor to have some heft. I have fairly large hands and I find the thicker handles and longer handles to be my preference. So basically, the Ikon as it is with the fatty tech handle. The bulldog look is also very popular and has a good grip. I think I would rather have a slick stainless coating that doesn't need re-plated!
I'd love a razor with the same kind of head design as a Shave King, only a little more aggressive, with a a nice knurled handle. I'd happily part with some good money for that kinda razor.
Or another idea if TTO is too difficult how about same razor in 2 piece similar to the Merkur HD. That would also make it more user friendly(easier to change the blade). You could add a fancy knob. Of course all stainless. Do we call this brain storming:happy102
Hi there, First, let me say I enjoy looking at your various unusual creations. It's nice to see a new company making what seems to be a very well received product. Heh, one of may favorite razors is a fat handle Tech, and you've tempted me more than once with your infernal shaving devices. I'll make things easy for you when it comes to my perfect razor. No big deal about the handle....how's that? Instead, I'd prefer to have an open comb adjustable. That way, I'd have the exact comfort level a fatboy gives me, coupled with that extremely close shave that I get from an open comb type. Definitely the best of both worlds! No hurry with that.........take a few weeks if you need to.......... Martin
How about an open comb slant? Open Comb Slant (Shave King meets Merkur HD Slant) with the longer fatty tech handle...
There are two things I'd like to see in razor design ... I put out these ideas in a similar thread on B&B, and I'm presenting them here again to see what the TSDers think: I'd like to see an asymmetrical head. Straight bar on one side, Open Comb on the other. Perfect for travel, and the user would get two razors in one. Also, a 3 x 3 combo kit ... 3 heads (Straight, Comb, Slant) matched up with 3 or more interchangeable handles. An HD style handle, a Long Classic handle, a BarberPole style handle, a Futur style handle with indentation at the Balance Point, and any sort of custom design a user might want. These heads and handles would need to be a 3 piece design, and would be interchangeable. So a user would be able to mix-n-match, and get 9 razors for the price of 3.
