I actually started out with a straight many years ago. Used it until I went to boot camp. For some reason they were pretty freaked out about me having one, so I sent it home. I was going through some stuff last year and found it again. I'd use it now but I have some strength uses in my hands due my Rheumatoid Arthritis and just can't really hold a straight well enough to use one. You don't really have to hold on to a DE all that much which works out great for me. There is an eloquence to a straight that no other form of shaving has in my opinion though.
I prefer a safety because: 1.I dont want to honing 2.I dont want to strop it. 3.I dont want to pay a fortune for a good one. 4.I love how the DE/SE looks like.
late to the party, I have been away. I use a safety razor because it provides me with the most enjoyable shaves. YMMV (burnwood)
