    Hi all,
I'm a woman interested in safety razors. I'm currently using disposables on my legs and cartridges on my underarms, in the shower with soap for lather. My legs are currently happy, underarms so-so (ingrown hairs :( )

Anyone with recommendations is welcome :) I'm interested in something pretty basic, not too heavy, a longer handle might be nice, and under $40 preferably. But also a razor I'll be happy with long-term, hopefully. Metal beats out plastic for aesthetics, in my mind. I've read that ladies like Sharps blades--is this your experience?

I'm located in the US, Seattle area, and vendor recommendations also are appreciated. Thanks!

Are you open to using vintage razors or do you want to stick to current production razors?

Welcome to TSD! Our ladies should be around shortly to give advice. I recall JoAnna is rather fond of Taylor of Old Bond Street Avacado shave cream.

Hi! welcome to the den :) I personally use a new razor because vintage ones freak me out, I'm just not a fan of using someone else's old razor. I have a $12 vincent razor and it treats me well. I like it for myself because you can apply a little pressure and not bleed everywhere. Crystal blades are great and if I were you I'd find a brush with a huge knot or get one made custom here. I have a 28mm knot and I can shave both my legs, arms, and my underarms with one lather. TOBS creams are amazing because they don't require much work to get a nice lather out of them and they smell great. Good luck! if you've got any more questions feel free to PM me if you want ^^.

Welcome to The Shave Den ella. I started out with a vintage Ladies Gillette, but have found that I like the slim adjustables better. For blades I like the Derby and the Persona red pack or Persona Isreali blade. If you are not fussy about needing a brand new razor I would suggest checking out the B/S/T forum here to see what may be available in razors. I would also suggest buying a sample pack of blades. West Coast Shaving has some good sample packs available online. For Creams, the Taylor of Bond Street is nice. or there are some very nice TSD creams available here at the store.

Let us know if you have any other questions and feel free to PM me if you want.

Good luck and enjoy your new journey

    Hi Ella,
    Welcome to the den.
There isn't much locally in the Seattle area as far a local retailers for shave goods. The is an art of shaving store in Bell Square, but AoS is way overpriced for the most part. There are a couple shops but your best bet is to buy online.
Ceamo cream and the real shaving company make creams that are available at drug stores like Bartell's and Rite-aid. The body shop has their own line of shaving cream, and bath and body works sells CO bigelow shave cream in a tube(not sure how big o f a menthol fan you are). Crabtree and Evylen has their own line of shave creams and shave soaps.
For blades folks seem to like the blades available at some walmart stores.

That's what's available locally, but if you mail order the options are many.

There are quite a few vendors that offer shave goods.
Some of my favorites are shavingessentials.net, westcoastshaving.com, shoeboxshaveshop.com, bullgooseshaving.net, and of course the shave den's own store.

I would suggest you look for a long handled super adjustable razor like this one.

Hi Ella, my wife uses and likes her Lady Gillette, as you may or may not have discovered by now, it is a fairly standard superspeed head and twist-to-open mechanism, but has a longer handle - pretty much the longest handled safety razors there are - and come in more female-friendly colors - blue, light blue, champagne, and pink.
The pinks are more rare - took me a looooong time to find one for my wife.

Now, there's also the option of the injector style razors, that I've read many of the ladies prefer because the angle of the blade is more ergonomic for leg shaving for them, and, it just so happens, there's a ladies line of Schick injectors with female-friendly colors, so you have several options, just read around and educate yourself and plenty of questions.

    Hope this helps.

Wow, so many helpful people! I'm fine with a used razor, long handled sounds good, prefer metal to "girlie" colors and will have to check out the injector and adjustable options.
I haven't even been able to find cartridge refills locally so no hope for anything more exotic. Mail order is cool, mostly I was thinking in-country.
    Thanks again :)

    Officially it's called Champagne :D

    What about something long-handled like a Merkur 23C or 25C? (I don't know on two counts - 1. I'm a man and 2. I've never held a Merkur razor).

Throwing a curve-ball in - what about a Feather Portable - it's metal, not wildly aggressive, comes with 2 blades, and Pauldog (on this forum) sells them for $10 delivered to this side of the pond (so less to the US) - pretty low risk investment I'd say, handy for travel if nothing else.

Oh & welcome aboard Ella :ashamed001

Hi Ella! Welcome to The Shave Den!

Long Handled Super Adjustable with a SHARP brand blade, Taylors of Old Bond Street Avocado shaving cream and a Kent BLK4 is my perfect set-up. I tried an injector, and didn't like it, but it was fairly early in my wetshaving experience.

Looks like you've gotten a lot of good advice already, so I'll just sign off by saying; Don't forget to sign up for the August Newbie Give-Away! (link is in my signature) :signs046
