What am I going to need for my razors to take with me for my shaving needs. I want to pack light but I need stuff that will last me at least a month until I can get my address and start order things. What do you suggest I pack with me and how should I pack it?
First and foremost, best of luck, stay safe and be careful. I don't remember what shave gear you have, but I would think a hard shave soap or shavestick, and learn to face lather if you don't already know how.
it would seem you'd want something quick with not much cleanup or hassle, the shavestick suggestion may just be ticket, and perhaps an adjustable razor so you can have some options while limiting to one razor (if that's the case). either way, I truly appreciate the sacrifice and work that our military does, and personally want to thank you, sir.
Well speaking from my point of view. Afghan had horrid living conditions but their was always something to do and the work spaces were great. Iraq had great living conditions but bad work spaces and little to do. Iraq in the summer, Afghanistan in the winter, 40 officers in my squad and I guess none of them took geography in school. :happy102 Pack light, my shave kit was a TSD bay rum soap, witch hazel, merkur HD, C&E best, that is all. V/R HM2 (AW) P.S. You wont need your arm floats or rubber ducky...
Good Luck and Be Safe. I'll have to hoist another PBR in your honor this evening. You were right, that is pretty good beer. How much lead time you got? Are you on your way right away or do you have a while to get ready? I'd love to join you, I really would but apparently I've already exceeded the government approved standards for pegged fun meter time.
hi i would keep it to the very basic nead,s you,r razor spare blades shaving stick or cream also you,r brush and of corse it would be great for you, to face lather so you dont nead a shave bowl and pick one colonge or shaving balm i think that shoul do till you can start asking for thing,s from home, good luck my friend and may god keep you safe and well.
Proraso green in a tube & a stick for a change. Kells originals makes awsome soaps in a neat little tin & some new shave sticks. Brush, Razor, 10ea blades for a month, alum block TSD ASB. I hope your trip goes well & that you can get on TSD from time to time. All the best Fozz
I haven't seen my orders yet but they should be for late october early november according to what my CO said when he called me. I haven't ever tried a shave stick cause I really liked my cream I bought and i don't want to buy too much stuff. Plus I don't know how to face lather so I better start practicing I always used a bowl. Afghanistan in the winter is rough few feet of snow but it is the only time its beautiful. I was in Kuwait in the summer so I know about the heat. I stepped off the plane and was literally blinded by the heat, I thought I was going to die right there. I remember drinking 2-3 gallons of water a day and peeing once a week. I still prefer the heat to the cold.
polypro or thermax long johns are worth their weight in gold As far as shave gear, a bulk purchase of blades (i.e. the 200 pack) probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I'd probably go with the KISS principle take your best one or two razors and best one or two brushes, more than enough blades for the duration and whatever soap works best for you. I'd probably operate under the assumption that you'll need to bring any wetshaving gear you need and plan on being able to sustain it for the whole time without re-supply. For example 2 razors, 2 brushes, adequate soap for the duration plus some and a minimalist approach to aftershaves perhaps Corn Huskers lotion and a couple of your favorite AS splashes. If you get in country and discover you need something shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to help you out
Well Im going to be carrying 4 sea-bags worth the stuff I don't need ie: Trenching shovel, canteen, soup cup, mosquito net, and so on. So I will carry 1 small back pack with as little as possible. Im still new to shaving so I was thinking the 50 razor sampler pack then when I get there I can order things with a CONUS shipping rate just a longer wait (2 weeks to a month) because APO is still considered American soil. Does anyone know of a sturdy travel case that can take a beating and protect my razor without taking up too much space? I have a C&E travel brush and will prob. order a fancy brush when I get in country.
First and foremost Thank You. Next take the Sub Zero to the desert. And if you have a problem getting something let us know. Lastly Keep your swabby keister down and come back to us. Gods Speed my Freind. Phil
Good luck and god bless, Sailor! do they let you have internet access/time there to keep in touch with TSD?
Hey Sailor, go with God's blessing and I whish you al the luck over there! I hope you can settle down there with a good internet connection, so we can keep in touch
Sailor, Thanks for your service! To help with your quest, I'd be happy to send you one of the following with my compliments: 1) Feather "portable" razor w/ plastic travel case. Very nifty little unit. Razor breaks down into 3 pieces. It may need a strip of duct tape to secure the lid for travel. 2) a Merkur DE Travel Case (black). Supposedly leather (could be vinyl), but very sturdy. Will carry a Merkur-sized razor (HD, regular, slant, etc ...) and a pack of blades. VERY secure for travel, as it zips up on the back. Also, you don't have to break down the razor to travel, and you can keep in the same blade. If either of these appeal, shoot me a PM and I'll get out in the mail to you this week. Cutman
How much for the black travel case that looks awesome. I was afraid I would be throwing them all in ziplock bags like I did last time with my mach 3.
Sailor, No charge. Just a small token of appreciation for serving. The case should work well for you. Here's what it looks like inside (from a vendor's website):
