Open Comb Razor Week Starts Monday

Well what else would a self respecting GEMlican start with lol? did you ever get a case for yours?

 

Actually, I just picked up a 2nd OC Gem; however, I haven't tried getting a case as I keep my razors and blades in some of these


... and keep the cases put away in a drawer.

 

Very cool.. I have several of the Damaskeene but only the one OC. I owe one of the closed combs to Special_K when I run him down,

yeah, can't believe I finally broke down and got on it...quite frankly I'm surprised it's still around since I joined, I have a tendency of breaking the "cool" things
(there is a kinda cool but cheesy fishing game on it)

back on topic, chatting with has brought back to my memory the bowl o' razors I bought many moons ago, and a quick lookie...yes, I do have more open combs!

2 OC Gem micromatics
several various gillette handles, with several more various gillette heads
I managed to Frankenrazor a gillette ball end tech handle with a good looking old or new OC head, looks pretty dang awesome.

 

I would love to join in but I lack any Open Combs. To those that have them enjoy.... and hopefully I can join you soon enough

 

Guess I'll be using a New, a New Improved and an old style Gillette this week. I've never shaved a whole week with OC razors. This will be a good learning experience. I'll have to remember to use a light touch!

 

I bet it shaves well.. the OC MM are ok too.. just be careful heh

GASP.. no Open Combs... you have no ideal what you are missing.

those are all good.. i will prolly use some of them... but the OC 1912 and OC MM firstest.. heh

yeah, I tried that bullet tip MM awhile back....results definitely varied, so I can imagine the OC MM being even more difficult. but I'll also bet with the right touch they'd produce remarkable shaves

 

They are very much over looked I have like 7 of them all in different box's. With a gentle touch and practice they shave great. Not as good as a 1912 though.< are we still using BurnWood?>

shave #1 with open-comb frankenrazor....Awesome!
used yellow gillette 7 o'clock, proraso, AV; 3 days growth gone in 2 passes with touchup. unbelievable

 

Those 7 O'Clock yellows are great blades. OC shave wonderful. I used my OC 1912 this morning, early, along with some Williams soap and AV. AHHHHH good stuff.

 

great smooth shave with OC 1912 Gem. will probably use it again tomorrow. So many choices...

 

I see you use the ER stropper.. I have not gotten very good results with mine. What is the secret?

I think tomorrow is the OC MM day.. I will revisit the 1912 later in the week.

Well... it is a fairly recent purchase, so I haven't used it much. It does a better job than my mutilated and modified autostrop GEM blade Stropper (no, not the one you sent me). It at least holds the blade more securely and the blade won't fall out. I really need to get Dave to fix up one for me properly. However, I don't think it puts as much pressure between the strop and blade as the modified autostrop.

I haven't given a good go with a non-stainless blade yet. With Pella's it feels like it smooths out the first pair of shaves, but I haven't decided if it helps them last longer.

 

Maybe after this week I will revisit the thing,... try to see if I can get good use from it.

Fine, I might still use the OC 1912 a second day. But I was thinking about taking the blade putting it in an OC MM tomorrow and a Valet on Wednesday. Then flip to DE side and maybe use the two OC slants and finish on the NEW/Old Styles

 

I am going to move the blade to the MM i think , then use a OLD NEW Improved and New then see what after that.. I do not have a OC slant or would throw it in. oh and I have a Single ring that I forgetted about so will use it too.
