I recently got to try an actual Bulldog old style (thanks Martin). I should try throwing my BRW bulldog handle on an old style head to see how it compares.
It's hard to say which is my favourite OC razor; I like so many. Here's a rough ranking from most preferred to least, but the differences are so minor that I'd be happy with every one of these. 1) iKon fat-handled Open Comb 2) Gillette British NEW + Bob's Bull mastiff handle. 3) Star 1912 4) Gillette British #15 (a little too mild). 5) Gem Micromatic
I don't want to be too picky, but as people might look at this as an educational thread, I want to make a correction. I have noticed that in the list of open-comb razors above, there are possibly closed comb razors as well. In a closed comb, there are individual teeth, but they are still connected by a common bar/rail at the end such as in the common 1912 Gem or Micromatic. There are open comb varieties of the 1912 Gem and micromatic as well; however, most of the ones you see are the closed comb variety.
The open comb Micromatic is by far the most common version. It must have been very popular in its day.Men were tougher then.
