1. Last week I bought a 5/8 Jim Slick restored from B&B. Today I bought another 5/8 Christensen, also restored. I think I'm addicted already and I haven't even started straight shaving yet. It puts the assortment of DE razors to shame, and there is just something, for lack of a better term, magical, about purchasing a tool as old as my grandparents while knowing it will provide outstanding shaves long after I am gone. It's an incredible feeling. I'm determined to master this lost art form if it costs me my face.
  2. The feeling is mutual

I bought a DOVO 5/8 special Blonde last week. It arrived on a Friday and was shaving with it the same night. I have already shaved three times and it only gets better with practice. Do not procrastinate. Take the plunge.
  3. I plan on taking the plunge as soon as my blade arrives :D
  4. Great! Have you read Dr. Moss pamphlet on www.shavemyface.com? I refer to it when I get stuck. I highly recommend.
  5. I have indeed. I've also been all over this forum as well as talking to several members on their technique. I think I'm as ready as I can get without actually doing it...
  6. Good luck! Remember to never force the razor, use a light-ish pressure, and don't go too steep with the angle. Also, good stretching is important with straights. I really hope you enjoy your straight shave :)

    James.
  7. Thank you everyone for the kind wishes. I found out I have a friend from school who started using a straight about a year ago and neglected to tell me... But he has come around and is giving me some lessons.
  8. Awsome! There is nothing better than a teacher. Let me know how your first shave went. Good Luck!
  9. That's great! I wish I had a turor when I first started :D
  10. Anyone we might know?

Racking my brain trying to think of the name. He's been away awhile.
  11. A one Brett Ellis. Anyone know him? He's actually in Europe still (Russia I think, or Germany) But he is still giving me plenty of helpful tips
  12. Nope, not the person I was thinking of. :)
  13. Edcculus. He hasn't posted since June 08. I dunno if he's even here anymore. (In Clemson, I mean.)
