I'm considering picking up a boar brush. I noticed that some boar brush bristles are white, like the Semoogue1250, and some are multicolored like the Semogue1305. Are there different grades for Boar hair with different softness and water absorption or is all pig hair the same pig hair? Are the color differences just aesthetic? I searched through a dozen pages in the brush forum and couldn't find my answer, so apologies if I'm asking a question that has been discussed at length.
The dyed colors are just aesthetic. I think there ARE some differences in boar hairs, but it's just that no one's made any real attempt to classify/sort them. Some companies seem to have softer bristles, or thicker ones, or whatever, but there are no labels like silvertip, etc. Just go with a good name (Omega, Semogue, Vulfix) and one that looks good to you!
I've got both white and the striped boar brushes and can find no real difference in them. They all do the job and do it well.
What she said. I have a Semogue 1305 (striped) and a 2000 (solid) both are outstanding. In a world where even really shoddy things are very expensive, it was fantastic to see that Semogue brushes are fantastic quality at really affordable prices. Leon at Vintage Scents.com (also a TSD member) will hook you up strong.
I love my boar brush and I don't think I could ever go to a soft badger brush. I really like the way the brush exfoliates my skin and helps to create a nice lather. What is so special about badger brushes anyways??
