Great, cheap and underrated are - in my opinion - Italian soaps, like Proraso (pre and post, shaving soap (tube and ciotola) and their cream and splas as)

Other great soap is Figaro and Crema Cella, where the figaro is really a bargain for the kilo of great scent you get.

VDH Deluxe (or Glycerin) shave soap fit the bill totally, as does Aqua Velva Classic. IMHO both products (although very affordable and widely available) consistently deliver fantastic quality.

Those are both affordable products that just work, and work well. One does not need fancy products to get a great shave. :D

If you have a Loccitane store near you, the Cade shaving soap is 10 dollars

    CANNED FOAM !!!

    just kidding! :happy102

Best would be KMF (my pref is Lavender, but the others are also excellent) with Ivy Club Pour Hommes (Vi-Jon's Spice aftershave -- Shulton OS knock-off) for a follow-up. :signs097

original Barbasol IMHO. probably raising tons of eyebrows here, but what can I say? I've tried Nivea, Gillette, Old Spice, etc. price/quality-wise Barbasol beats 'em for me.

part of it is traveling - I used to live in/travel around Europe frequently and Barbasol was a very inexpensive companion. yes, the can rusts after a few months but the dispenser is plastic, so it's not like you're shaving with brown foam on your face ;)

Some really good, underrated creams are:

    Florena,
    Speick,
    Nivea.

    Soaps:
    Speick stick,
    Palmolive stick

Really great value for the money

I agree with Tiberiu. Also, let me add another fantastic and probably underrated cream, which is Solo Menthol. I don't know if it is cheap or expensive, but it is wonderful. :)

    Master's Shaving Soap

Here's a soap that gets bad reviews that I happen to like-
Master's Shaving Soap. My barber gave me a few pucks when I told
him about my new hobby. It's about $12 for 8 pucks. It's very easy to
to lather up and has a nice soapy smell-just my idea what soap should smell like-I'm not very good with the descriptive adjectives. Somebody on BB said it smells like the puck used in a urinal-no way.

My current favorites are KMF Lime and Proraso, both affordable, actually cheap.

I tried Master's. It has excellent lather, but I found it had no skincare.

I agree, but that doesn't bother me, it just means a generous hit of Iced Subzero AS Milk when I'm thru. As long as I don't get dried out I don't mind
using some extra AS, it's about lather and protection for me.

Ah, ok. With Iced Subzero AS Milk, your skin can survive anything!

VDH of course. Exceptional bang for the buck and quite good too.

I like these, cost under 2 Dollars for both. They work very well. I'm going to get a stock before the supermarket stops selling them.
