Nope, at the end of a pass when you start to pull the razor in the other direction, the blade automatically flips over to strop the other side.
And another question, if i buy new SE blade and i wouldn't mind trowing the blade after 3-4 use, do i really need to strop them after each use?
Maybe, and this is just a suggestion, people were less comfortable with the idea of throwing away a blade, back when these auto strop razors were designed. We take disposable items for granted now, and Mr. Gillette may have contributed to that, but it wasn't always that way. [Edit] Also, now that I think of it, new blades may not be equally cheap in all times and places.
in some of the auto strop ads ive seen they actually give you the choice of stropping the blades or not and just buying new ones ala DEs.
Ive been lucky. I contacted a guy at the Feather company and i showed him those pictures of the razor, saying i need single edge blade for it. He was really impress to see that somebody was still using that razor. He told the razor haven't been in production since 30 years and he offered to send me blades for free. I accepted of course.
That's awesome! It's always great to here about a company that stands behind its product, especially when it's a product that has been out of production for so long.
I just bought some of the Feather SE blades for my auto strops.. nice shaving razor by the way. And to take my guess as to why it was invented... back in the day people had to stretch the blades because they could not afford to buy new blades as often.. that is my guess. Fuzzy
But how many shave can i expect out of a blade without stropping it? Cus i don't have a strop at the moment. Thanks.
I get about 4 shaves.. but the stropping does not seem to help with the modern blades. Not to me anyway, Fuzzy
Wow!! Nice razor. Looks sort of like the Wilkinson Sword one that I have. Does anyone on here use these regularly? If so, how good are they? I have a Wilkinson Sword 7 day razor and it`s never been used. Still has the waxpaper on the strop and i`m debating on whether or not to use it or just put it away.
I think I might try one of the Valet`s that I have. They are about the same style. Just can`t bear tearing that wax paper off the strop.
Nice! The Wilkinson Empire, like yours, uses a wedge blade that is much narrower that other wedges of the time. The Wilk Pall Mall isn't a self stropping and some came with a strop and handle. You can take the Empire blades out of the mounting mechanism. If you have a stropping handle for another wedge blade, you might be able to use it to hold the Empire blade and then you can strop it on whatever other strop you have around. I love those Wilk seven day sets.
