    Thursday Shave

    Thursday, November 12, 2009

    Razor: Futur
    Blade: Indian Wilkinson
    Brush: Vulfix 2006 Pure Badger
    Soap/Cream: Taylor’s Avocado cream
    A/S: Dickinson’s Witch Hazel/Pre de Provence A/S balm

Tried a new blade this morning, which I had received as a sample. The results exceeded my expectations--a smooth, comfortable, irritation-free shave--and BBS too! I need to try a few more shaves with it, and also try one in another razor to see if it performs well there, too. But I’m a happy camper so far.

The witch hazel and Pre de Provence finish was a great way to top off this morning’s shaving experience.

    Razor: Merkur HD
    Blade: Indian Wilkinson (by Gillette)
    Brush: Shavemac D01 Horn
    Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime
    Soap: Cyril Salter
    A/S: Pre de Provence ASB

The Cyril Salter soap seems to lather better than other non tallow soaps that I have tried and it really performs well. Today's shave was excellent!

The Derby was a real tugger today and it hit the blade bank. I'm finding that I'm not fond of them.

    TWELVE
    NOVEMBER '9.

    Wash: Denim Musk
    Razor: Fusion
    Cream: Eton College
    Brush: C&E Best
    Splash: Faux Bracer
    Finish: Denim.

    ...

Fusion worked well for some time but, now on its fourth or fifth shave, it's a mess. Personna disposables blow this ugly thing out of the water.

I was also planning to use a canned cream all week; after shaving with some Omega SS + brush last night, though, I marveled at the difference between canned foam and proper lather.

    THE 2
    FOR NOV. XII.

    Razor: Merkur Long
    Blade: Sputnik
    Soap: Arko
    Brush: C&E Best
    Splash: Clubman.

    ...

The Fusion didn't shave me too well today - standard no. of passes with ultimately not enough reduction.

I'm not going out but did need a nice shave for the sake of having one.

Arko blows me away. I'm glad I'm among those who like its scent, because it's a top performer @ no cost + lovely scent.

Fabulous shave. Yesterday I thought the Gillette reached almost it's end. But yesterday's shave was in a hurry and at today's delightful slow shave the blade worked fabulous again.
There were Rumours the WoW is discontinued but it appeared in last times in several stores. So I'm hopefully.

    XIII
    NOVEMBER
    'NINE.

    Wash - Musgo Real
    Razor - Schick Twin
    Soap - l'Occitane Cade
    Brush - C&E Best
    Splash - Harris Pink
    Finish - Bel Ami.

    ...

The Fusion is shot. Four to five shaves in, it's dull to the point of not being able to crop hair in any significant way.

Schick Twin disposables, which sell for 1.50 per 5 at the only store at which I've seen them, are top-notch. Long-lasting and attractively designed, they look like a certain breed of Personna disposable, but they're a nice deep blue in color and translucent. They're very serious razors with surprisingly ample blade exposure (bottom blade).

Should you come across these razors, please do yourself the favor of purchasing them - you won't regret it!

The Dirty Bird scuttle I bought on the B/S/T on another board arrived yesterday and I put it to use this morning. I figured I'd face lather and used the IM stick to good effect. The Super Max is still smooth and effective and another DFS/borderline BBS shave resulted.
