I am here to say.....Hats off to all you straight razor guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw one in an antique store today and picked it up. "Trying to act like a cool guy" I ran it across the hair on the back of my hand like I do with a pocket knife so I can say cool things like"oooh, thats sharp" or"thats a pretty nice blade".
Soooo..... when the the razor turned out to be ATOM SPLITTING SHARP and I lost allthe hair and 2 or 3 layers of skin......I instanly gained a new respect for you guys! I watch John Wayne and all those old westerns and those guys are sitting in a barber chair getting a shave. Those barbers must have been freaking magicians with those razors!!!! What happened when that old barber had been out drinking the night before and you were the first customer/victim the next morning? hahaha!

I think perhaps standards are different...

Mark Twain had some rather Mark Twainish things to say about "Olde Timey" barbershops...;)

Also, how much was the straight?

10 bucks or something....there were a couple there...one had a chipped blade and the ATOM SPLITTER was in good shape from what I could tell. Should I go back and buy it?

Was there any marking on the blade? Brand,solingen,shefield...etc? $10 dosent sounds bad at all even if it need a little work.:D I picked up a blunt but good condition King cutter boker for $30, and the antique mall had some broken useless pakistani blades for $40!! crazy loonies..lol

If it's popping hairs on the back of your hand, it's certainly worth taking a $10 flier on.

    I'd say go ahead.

PS Post some pictures; we'll all be happy to tell you how horrible it looks and offer to dispose of it safely for you. ;)

Alright.....no making fun.....I just had a minute to run by there and lost the paper I wrote the names down on. So one was a American. It had a chrome handle but the end of the blade was broken.> $19
The second one was really nice. I cant remember the name but it started with a W and ended in holm I think. It was perfect. Super nice blade/black handle and in really good condition as far as I could tell.>$29
The third was a solingen I think. It had a weird wooden looking handle with a turquoise color in the end of it. Badly chipped blade. >$19

Someone tell me if those are good deals or not. Or if you want them maybe we'll work something out.

    thanks again everyone!

Broken blades pretty much kill the deal unless the handle is really, REALLLY cool and you can take it off and put it on another blade.

The Wostenholm might be worth the $29, photos would tell for sure (if they'll let you photograph it). Depends on how much wear the blade has, how wide the blade is, the grind of the blade (hollow vs wedge)...

    Good luck!

If the Wolstenholme is the one that shaved the back of your hand, it sounds like a pretty good bet at that price. Get some pictures and post them here if you can; everyone here will do their best to steer you right.

    Good Hunting

I specifically remember the blade on the Wolstenholm because the other 2 were chipped. It was in great shape, hollow ground, and had writing and stuff on the blade. It looked new but was clearly not. If it is a good deal I might try to sneak a picture later today or maybe just buy the thing either way.hahah

Then sell it to one of you guys!!!hahahaah

If the Wolstenholm was the one in good shape, BUY IT. If you never want to use it, I guarantee you can sell it here. Or on Ebay.

    I blame you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only been on this site for 4 days and look what youve DONE!!!!!

1 unmarked black handled straight. some surface rust but overall nice sharp blade in original box. $12

1 really nice Wostenholm & Sons straight. Great blade, nice handle, in original box.$29

1 badger hair brush. It has marking on it but its hard to read. $19
    It reads:
    Badger Hair
    London Made
St?????sed i cant really make out the middle letters. In original box.

1 Gillete D/E in great shape. It is the one I have used for the last few days. I think its missing the ball on the end. $2

1 Gem S/E in great shape. No rust or anything. $2

If some of you can help me identify and tell me if I got a good deal on these that would be great!!! Any info would be great! Like how old are they and al that.

BUT!!!! I do blame you guys for giving me another hobby to spend money on! Oh and I have been talking about getting that Wostenholm for the last few days and my girlfriend surprised me with it today! How lucky am I????

Sterilized, which can also be spelled Sterilised.
That razor was not made with a ball on the end. Looks like a Fatboy.

Thanks. I just saw a picture of a fatboy and I was wrong about the ball on the end. It just looked like there should be something there haha.

    Thanks,

+1 on that thought! 10 bucks is not too bad if the blade is halfway decent. Scales can always be improved... :D
I'd say go ahead and get it. Then get all the rest of the gear, do some more research here if needed and give it a try. You won't regret it... I hope :think002
