I'm not sure where to store my blade that I'm using. Keep it in the razor? Could cause some accidents, if people aren't careful. If I were to take it out, where could I place it without it taking any damage?
I keep the blade in the razor. I keep the razor in my medicine chest, away from grandkids and the wife. Have not had a problem doing this in the past few decades. Man, that makes me sound old!
After starting shaving I installed a shelf above the mirror where only I can reach without a step-stool. On this shelf I mounted T made out of acrylic. In the top of the T I drilled holes to hold razors, in the side of the T I put hooks to hold brushes. My razors with blades in them are in the T mounted to the shelf above the bathroom mirror. I am not even sure that my wife/daughter could get at the razor with a step-stool. It doesn't look pretty, but it does the job.
I keep mine in the razor and keep the razor in a cabinet with all my other stuff. I have more of a large Shave Cubby than a Shave Den, a small Shave Cave if you will. Its on the top shelf and well within reach but my kids are 11 and 12 and mind pretty well. I have stressed to both of them how it can really hurt them if they don't heed my warning. lol, Shave Cave sounds cooler than Shave Cubby now that I think about it.
Shave Cave, haha. That does sound awesome. I got a little inspired by shavingidiot, and decided to eat my blades in between shavings. I then just push it out whenever I need it. Just use some hot water on it, and I'm ready to go.. ehm....
Hiya, Guess I should welcome you to here. I just noticed you're from Norway, and I'm glad you got the tiny bit of sarcasm in my post. Sometimes that doesn't translate too well, but no problem with you there. Now here's something for when you feel a little more adventurous. I'll use a variation of this technique in order to try different blades in the same razor. I can switch off easily, and never missplace any blades after I use em a time or two. Keep in mind this guy on the video is an amateur, since he's left with a spot or two of blood at the end. Actually, you probably won't even notice that. Martin Oh, from the looks of it, the first blade used to cut the paper is probably a Merkur......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-uxPNy7ec8
I keep mine in my razor, on the sink. No kids in the house, but even if there were I think that any kid big enough to be alone in the bathroom would be able to understand not to grab sharp things.
Old safety razors came in plastic boxes that had snap lids made you could ebay one. A nice tight tupperware could do the trick for small hands. If you want to be Posh and luxurious a leather case with a nice tight snap could do it too, or a less expensive. Also if you don't already have one now is the time to get one, every gentleman should have a dopp bag. Giid Luck C. S. Budzi
Not necessarily. Back when I was about four I found a blade left on the sink. My mind thinks, "Are these things really as sharp as Mom and Dad say?" I ran the edge down my thumb. It didn't hurt right away. There was no blood right away. "What's the big deal?", thought my four year old mind ...until I squeezed the cut open. Then it wouldn't stop! And the pain came! Boy, did the pain come!! If you got kids, keep the blades in a safe place!
If you notice there are holes in most modern razor blades. I use those hole when I store my blades. Simply run the chain I have around my neck through one of the holes and hang the blades (DE and SE) around my neck. That way I have them close to my heart all the time.
Where's my bowl of Sugar Frosted Iridiums? When I was a young boy, I was a member of the Cub Scouts. Each year, they hired a magician to entertain at one of the Pack meetings. The guy they hired was good with kids, and one of his "presentations" was the razor blade eating thing. In avoiding any possible emotional trauma to the Cubs, he did not include the fake blood, although we would have loved it. Unfortunately, he did not have the same assistant as the one appearing in the video. -Vance
Hiya, Not meaning to derail this thread badly, but I did want to thank the couple members who at contributed some form of humor or banter to the thread. Man, it's no fun bantering if the audience isn't up for responding. Heh, makes things a bit one sided, which gets old fast. Maybe it's my fault for not including a more controversial video? Nah, that one shoulda done the trick. You guys gotta loosen up here! Ok. back to this extremely informative thread about safety, Martin
I just keep the blade in the razor, making sure the razor and blade are dry before placing it in the shaving cabinet.
Keep it in the razor. If it is a carbon steel blade I dip in an alcohol solution or alcohol first. I let it dry either way.......
I keep the blade in the razor and give it a good swirl in the rubbing alcohol and shake it out well and lay the razor on its side. As for storing bulk blades, I quit keeping them in the bathroom, I moved them to my room in an air tight container. I have around 200+ blades from various manufactures now, and after moving them out of the bathroom into a climate controlled area I notice they last longer before rust or mineral deposits build up.
