Been awhile since I used the SCS Oakmoss & Lavendula. Great scent that reminds me of the woods in spring a bit. Heaven only knows we need some spring here in WPa right now. Wednesday Shave Wednesday, February 17, 2010 Long Handled Progress Astra Superior Platinum Proraso cream Vulfix 2234 Super A/S: Dickinson’s Witch Hazel, Proraso splash Close, smooth, and comfortable--the kind of shave I’ve come to expect from the Progress/Astra SP duo. And, of course, the Proraso contributed to the smoothness and comfort. The WH/Proraso splash was a great way to finish the shave. -Vance
Prep: Hot shower, hand strop blade Coffee: Home roasted Kenya, black Soap: D R Harris Marlborough Brush: Omega 49 Razor: '61 Fatboy @ 6 Blade: Astra, day 5, 3 passes Post: Cold water rinse, Brut A/S balm 'Stache wax (to steal a page from 1OldGI's page): Wacky Tacky from Firehouse Moustache Wax Shave Rating*: 5 blades It's after a shave like this that keeps me believing in hand stropping my blades. Smooth, super close, irritation free, no nicks or weepers. The lather was thick and slick. No burn. Thus the 5 Blade rating. *SHAVE RATINGS 5 Blades - The PERFECT shave (it's your shave, you rate it!) 4 Blades - What most would probably rate as DFS 3 Blades - Not bad, just something not quite right ie. thin lather, could only do 1 or two passes rather than normal 2 or 3, etc. 2 Blades - Some razor burn or irritation, a nick or weeper or two, but nothing serious 1 Blade - Something about the shave that makes you say, "Man I'll never try (fill in the blank) again!"
Shaved late last night for a change. 72 Superspeed black handle Derby Blade The "Thing" Vulfix Badger TSD Iced Oak and Acorns with some atomized Osage Rub all over the torso. I have been getting really nice shaves recently. Last night's shave was good but not as good as they have been. A little irritation and a few weepers. The Osage Rub spritz right before bed was a terrific end to an otherwise mediocre Tuesday.

Wed morning, long day so just getting around to documenting. -Intelligentsia Evanston blend coffee-ground fine and brewed on my stove top espresso maker. -Hot Shower -PC Woodcraft Silvertip Badger (Snake wood handle) -ECB Nomad Soap -Gillette 7 Oclock sharp blade (yellow pack-day #1) -Merkur 38C razor -Thayers Unscented Witch Hazel with Aloe -Ahava after shave moisterizer -3.5 blades on the Swarden scale I have a terrible dilemma. I have about 8 razors I have not yet tried and I have about 10 blades from a variety pack I'm working thru. I'm using the Merkur razor (the one I have the most experience with) to judge the blades as too many variables will make it difficult to compare. These never used (by me) razors are killing me. I want to try all of them....now. It's going to take me a year or more to test all of this stuff. I have to say that I'm enjoying the ride.
February 17, Birthday Shave Edition! Tweezerman brush, l'Occitane Cade soap, hot shower, 40's Gillette SS with a brand-new Dorco ST300 blade. So, after a WTG pass and one XTG pass, I went for an ATG pass. Most of my neck is nice and smooth (some parts even BBS ). The problem is, the shave was harsh on my skin at times, and a few hours later the skin just outside of my chin is still a little sensitive. Am I doing something wrong? Did I go too far too fast?
